This young Tomatin matured on a sherry butt and was bottled at cask strength after 7 years by the independent bottler Kintra – you know: Erik Molenaar, the owner of the Wagging Finger distillery in Holland, famous for his gin of the same name. Apparently, Erik only got 142 bottles. If my info is correct, the remainder of the cask was distributed in Germany. Who cares? It can hardly hide its young age on the nose. But that’s fine, it shouldn’t have to try. I get some mild spices, but mostly apples and lime and some… err… Nuttella choco paste. A hint of tobacco leaves and some heather grasses. I quite like this. The body is fine, as is the strength. Some more spices, now, but mostly wonderfully sweet notes of nuts, plums and apricots, blueberries and Seville oranges. This is very similar to the Tomatin Wood, truth be told, but a little more outspoken. The finish is surprisingly long for such a youngling, with a big bitter note at the death. This young Tomatin fulfilled all my expectations. I was very charmed by the nose.
