Ardbeg Ten, Springbank 10, Talisker 10, Amrut Intermediate Sherry and Amrut Peated Cask Strength are delicious.

Have you ever thought about buying Ben Nevis 10 yo, Blair Athol 12 yo or Millstone 2005 100 rye whiskey ? Well, they are bang for bucks too.

I have dreamt about Amrut Greedy Angels ,Springbank 21 yo from the Whisky Nerds in the Netherlands. I was tempted to buy some old Ardbegs ( 21 yo for example ). I won't buy either of them. I prefer to waste my dough on caviar and Cuban cigars :)

@NamBeist - I have a Ben Nevis 10 in the stash. Prices have risen a little recently but I got one last year for £30 - nay bad! I'll probably open it sometime this year.

@RianC, if it adds to your enjoyment of that Ben Nevis, know that it's one of those whiskies that you get WAAAAAAY better prices on in the UK versus elsewhere. In the States at least, it's super overpriced—usually in the $80 neighborhood when I see it.

Although I plan to buy no whisky in 2018, I will participate in this discussion by listing the five bottles already in my possession that I'm most looking forward to opening this year:

•Kilkerran 8 CS

•Benromach 10/100

•Kilchoman red wine cask, a single cask bottled for K&L

•Springbank 14 Fino CS

•Glen Scotia 22 CS (Signatory)

  1. An age stated 8+ year old Barrel Proof Rye whiskey for under $80.

  2. Wild Turkey Decades for $100 or less. I have only seen this at $130+, but know it can be occasionally found for less. Not too hopeful about this one.

  3. Any good store pick single barrel bourbons.

  4. A Ben Nevis, the standard 10 year would be fine, but I have never seen it on a shelf.

  5. A Cask Strength Sherry Bomb. Love the Mac CS, Abunadh, and Glendronach single cask that I've had. Price and availability will be the issue here.

My 2018 wishlist isn't huge but good. Replenishing the stash with a new Amrut peated CS and I want to get a Ledaig. Perhaps an indie one..

Gutted about Old Pulteney 17 being discontinued. I hadn't heard that news.

My 5

Old Pulteney 17 - I'll try and grab a couple of bottles before it disappears into the mist.

Hazelburn 10

Benromach 10/100

Glendronach 18

Glenlivet 18

I’m done buying this year as I’ve already broken the bank. My only allowance will be if I win the BTAC auction for the LCBO. In other words, I’m done for the year.

@Nozinan truth be told - just between you and I - the line will probably be drawn at duty free in March when I pick up a bottle of Lagavulin 16 for $65. Just between us though. Also - translation please? Chinese New Year?

@nooch, I'm suggesting you increase the whisky budget, then show some restraint and come in slightly under budget.

I'm at 24% of budget YTD...I've tightened my hold on the reigns...for now.

@paddockjudge I don't place a monetary limit on purchases for the year, though I do have a threshold above which I won't go per bottle.

What I've found more helpful is an overarching view of what I want my collection to look like year over year. Well, it helped last year....

@paddockjudge I’ve tried to eliminate any semblance of unplanned purchases in an attempt to keep my costs a little more under control. I’m much less likely to buy a bottle unless it’s been heavily researched and is something I’m really interested in. Three - four years ago I was looking to just get my hands in whatever I could. More discerning now I think. We’ll see how it works out. I suppose I should do what you seemingly do - which is to have a set amount of spending per year. That forces a person to be a little more choosy. I also now have a rule now wherein I have to finish a bottle before I can buy another. Only a dram or two left on a bottle of old Pulteney 17yo o have. Uh oh.

@nooch, it ain't easy to stick to one bottle. Cut yourself some slack...you might wind up powering your way through a bottle just to get on to another..and what happens if you aren't enjoying a particular bottle?

I was trying to think of a list of wants for 2018. Like most I want the opportunity to pick up WLW or GTS in the lottery or a PVW 15.(bucket list thing)

Reality is I want to replace my dwindling bottle of Springbank 12 CS, Old Forester 1920 and some how come up with an EH Taylor BP.

My 5 dream list, in no particular order:

1) Amrut Intermediate Sherry

2) Stagg JNR

3) Masterson's 10 YO

4) Glen Scotia Victoriana

5) Glengoyne 21 YO

@Frost Try and avoid the Masterson's batch 015, not in the same class as the 001,003,005 or PSA3. Not really sure how the batching works as I have never seen any batches between the 005 and 015

I think the Bunnahabhain 14 PX is starting to make my list due to all the gushing it has been receiving. People are going crazy over it. The secondary market has already doubled the shelf price.

@Astroke thank you for the tip off. I am going to email the vendor to check on the batch(es) in stock.

Come to think of it, I tried Masterson's 10 YO at a show here in Sydney last year, and I'm unsure which batch it was.
