@WhisQueer,

Bienvenue à bord, it's always nice to see new members who jump in with both feet to the discussions and reviews, some of us were new to this site not so long ago too.

I've enjoyed your reviews thus far, you'll find everyone quite open to the different styles of reviewing.

Hi everyone, I joined the group to help me better understand, appreciate, and find the perfect Whiskey's for me to enjoy. I'm 41 and never liked the "hard" stuff most of my life. I always stuck to beer until last summer when my friend gave me a Bottle of the Macallan cast strength. Wow, it completely won my heart and taste buds over. I have since dabbled in Scottish Single Malts but the selection in my area is pretty slim "South Central PA". Where can I get bottles shipped to me in the US or places to sample different makers. I have also read a few good books on the subject and have some tasting guides to sort of point me in the right direction. It's all well and good, but most of state stores only carry a few brands. Hope to meets some folks, learn a lot, make some friends and find some good evening "sips".

Welcome, @cwspangler !

That Macallan Cask Strength that won you over is a bit of a legend. It's also discontinued for a number of years now—don't count on ever finding it again. But there are good substitutes still on the market.

I think you'll find some other folks on this site who are familiar with overcoming the limited selection in your area. You might try a couple searches for past discussions.

Welcome, @cwspangler. From York, PA you might do very well to make whisky-buying excursions first to Baltimore, and maybe later to Montgomery County, MD and some of the DC stores. Drop me a follow and a PM for some store suggestions.

@MadSingleMalt that make me really sad to hear that. He told me it was a special bottle, but eluded to tell me that it would be my last!

@Victor thank you for the advise. I did finally figure out the site a little more and put my current "limited" and "favorites" on my shelf. I figured out how to follow you and a few others. How do I send PM's on here??? You seem like you are from my general geographic area. If you know of any gatherings, whiskey/cigar bars, or private venues for discerning tastes, I would love to know. I believe that some of the best things things in life..... fine wine, fine whiskey, and fine food are worth sharing with others. Fine women, like my wife I will keep to myself! :) I will try to figure out how to PM you and get more info. Thanks again!

@cwspangler Welcome to Connosr. You’ll find quite a good number of experts here. I’ve been here just under a year, and I’ve learned a LOT. @Victor is a bourbon expert, @paddockjudge is our go-to expert on Canadian whisky. As for scotch, Irish and other whisky, there are many others contributing so you have to find out whose palate is similar to your own.

@cwspangler Welcome aboard. I'll just add to what @OdysseusUnbound said. @Victor is the go to guy for all things whiskey and whisky. You just have to ask. Just keep an eye on the people who are most active on here and all your questions will be answered. It's a fun and informative place to hang out and we owe a big debt of gratitude to the founders: the brothers Thiebault. thumbsup

Hello! After reading about Connosr as a resource for whisky lovers on Whisky Advocate, I thought to give it a go. I am very much a pen and paper type of gal (yes, as my handle indicates, I am indeed an archivist), and while I've kept a paper inventory/notebook of all whiskies I've ever tried, and track what I own, I'm intrigued by having a virtual whisky cabinet, so to speak. Longtime whisky drinker thanks to Dad, but far from knowing much other than what I like to drink. Always exploring and open to new whiskies, and am hoping for suggestions and interesting discussions here!

@archivist Well welcome aboard. There is a wide range of experience and expertise, and lots of great discussions about our favourite drink. I'm sure you'll enjoy joining in and being a part of the global community here. Any particular personal favourite whiskies, or styles you'd like to share with us? As an aside, I have something of a penchant for pencils - they are just so much more tactile than a pen and there is a certain beauty in their simplicity. Anyway, welcome.

@Hewie Thank you for the welcome. Pencils are an absolute necessity at work and pens are not allowed, so writing in pen is my "outlet".

My bargain bottle is Teeling (small batch), and I find it to be easy drinking, uncomplicated and what I pour after work or just reading a book, and I'll use it if I'm making a cocktail. On its own, I enjoy Glendronach 12 -- when I'm feeling reflective and watching the sun set, I'll have a dram of Lagavulin 16. I like to think my tastes vary, and am always game to try something different. Suggestions welcome, and I do look forward to diving into this forum more to learn, and share.
