We should get a wall for the abbreviations we use. Today, I read an IOS 8 that I don't understand. So please, gives us your abbs and there meaning.

A full list of stuff like this?

•CS = cask strength

•NAS = no age statement

•OB = official bottling

•IB = independent bottling

•PC = Port Charlotte

If so, we can probably dig up a link to a big abbreviation list that some anorak someplace has already made. I'm sure it's out there.

(Or is this a smart phone thing you're looiking for? "IOS 8" sounds like a modern phone thing I wouldn't know anything about. Maybe there's a way to program your common abbreviations or something? Maybe I'm way off track here.)

IOS 8 is the operating system for iPhones and iPads and the autocorrect feature occasionally causes issues

Ah! so it is a phone thing.

So what's the need, then? A list of abbreviations you can use that your phone will correctly replace with the full terms?

No, I need to remember to check before pressing "post now"

But it would be nice to have a list for people to refer to...

@Nozinan I know IOS 8 is an operating system but I read it in a discussion as if it was a whisky. Maybe I didn't catch an inside joke. That was just an example. I now can decipher almost all the abbs members are using but I still believe it could be useful to have a list.

@Oljas That is exactly what I had in mind. Just for Laphroaig, I have read Laph, Laf, Lf, etc.It is confusing for a beginner. At the same time it is a it of fun on our path of becoming Anoraks (LoL).

@Robert99, now I'm getting a different idea of what you want: a list of common abbreviations that phone users can adopt to avoid their gizmos' problems with autocorrect or whatever. Is that right?

I'm just trying to understand the idea of this thread. I don't have a fancy phone and I probably won't be able to ultimately help here. Sorry.

For what it's worth, I hereby ask all fancy phone users in the world to NOT let your gizmos limit your expression. Txt spk and unnecessary abbreviations are annoying for the rest of us. And as Robert99 says, it's confusing for a beginner. Sorry to be a crank.
