I like your reviews in general, hope to hear from your pov what you think of the Ardbeg day. I was so upset to find out that they don't ship out of UK anymore. Which they did previously with the Alligator. Was excited that I caught them just released on the website, and was so happily adding the bottles into my basket only to realize they don't ship out of UK when checking out ... :(

as for my next bottle would be either the Alligator (which I promise myself as a reward when I clinches my first overseas deal, which I just did..) or the Corryvreckan... can't wait... for a less busy and stressful day to do so...

Just snagged a Caol Ila 30 year old Bladnoch Forum in an auction! Not sure when I'll open it but it sounds yummy!!

@SquidgyAsh Ah totally jealous.. lots of good older Caol Ilas - between about 10 years and 20+ years they go "MIA" but once in the mid to late 20's they can (reportedly) morph into something quite amazing, in wood that is conducive to marrying well with the intrinsic qualities of the Caol Ila spirit. I am yet to try such a dram, but I eagerly anticipate the time when I will have the privilege of doing so! Really curious on this auction business, please PM me about it or I will be sure to ask very soon. Cheers!

I really really want to get the Auchentoshan Valinch, heard great things about the whisky, plus it'll be my first Lowlander Scotch. Also want to get a bottle called Fettercain Fior, heard good things about it as well and it's a relatively non-heard of distillery.

Since 4th of July is coming up, I'll be opening up some US bottles including the Old Fitzgerald 12YO and the Evan Williams Single Barrel. I'll also be re-tasting the Wild Turkey Rare Breed and the wonderful Bernheim Original, to name but a few.

I think the next bottle that I will buy will be the Glenmorangie Signet. I just love it and cant afford to keep buying it when I see it in the odd bar that has it!

Picked up a bottle of Te Bheag yesterday, as I was quite impressed with it at our recent Scotch tasting, and I've also put a request in at the local LCBO for bottles of Compass Box Spice Tree and Arran Machrie Moor (2nd Edition). Hopefully they'll arrive soon!

Picked up two local Washington whiskies today: Dry Fly's Washington Wheat Whiskey (100% wheat) and Woodinville Whiskey Company's Micro-barrelled 100% Rye Whiskey. It's funny, in the cooler months I reach for Scotch almost exclusively, but something about warmer weather makes me want rye and bourbon.

Recent acquisitions have included Buffalo Trace (yay, $5 off at LCBO!!) and Dun Bheagan Islay 8 yo (distilled 2002) that, I have been advised by the rep that I sampled some from in January, is a Lagavulin series of casks.

Today, 'WhiskyJoe' kindly surprised me with a bottle of George Dickel #12 as a thank you for looking after some wildlife (3 cats, 7 gerbils, 2 fish) at his house during the past week. We had cracked open a bottle a couple of weeks ago and both loved how this one tasted during a warm summer afternoon on the back deck.

This one had been on my wishlist ever since 'Victor' brought it to my attention over a year ago, and had been on my 'acquisition radar' ever since the LCBO brought it to Ontario a couple of months ago. Thank you 'WhiskyJoe' for the wonderful surprise!!

So the shop near me has received a single bottle of Glenmorangie Signet. I was all excited until I saw the 365$ sticker...

I'll get 6 bottles of Laphroaig QC at that price.

Sroberts86 replied

How much?! What is that in Pounds Sterling? @chickenium

@chickenium
chickenium replied

@Sroberts86 365 CAD, around 230 GBP. Considering the bottle goes for 114 GBP on TWE, I'd say it's a pretty bad price.

Pudge72 replied

@chickenium...agreed, but it is nice that you can get it locally. No appearance of the Signet at the LCBO yet, though if it did show up, I suspect pricing would be similar to what you are experiencing.

However, if you scrounge around and do travel to the US at some point, it can be had for $150 - $250 US, depending on the state and store.

I would agree, a terrible price. Don't know if you've tried it but I think it is fantastic. Looks good too, as little as that matters @chickenium

@Pudge72 - I've also got a bottle of the Dun Bheagan Islay 8 year (2002), and from what I've managed to dig up online, yes, it is indeed a Lagavulin. I'm interested to see how it compares to the 16 year OB.

@YakLord, from what I remember of the sample I had six months ago, the sherry influenced notes are not as prominent as the peat and smoke, but what I associate as the signature of the 16 is present. Kind of a "Lagavulin 16 Lite" that is a good peat hit for a summer evening. That all being said, I have yet to open the DB Islay 8 (2002) that I acquired last month as I am working on finishing off some open bottles.

BTW, 'YakLord', glad to hear you have enjoyed the Te Bheag...definitely one of my favourite 'regulars'. The Spice Tree has been awesome as well!

Bought an unusual one today: High West Campfire Whiskey. It's a blend of bourbon, rye, and smoky single malt. I think it'll be an oddball, but I was too curious to pass it up. I like High West's ryes, and I appreciate efforts to see beyond conventional whiskey blending. The worst part is that though I've paid for it, I won't be able to pick it up until late August!

Picked up a 1st Edition 97 14 y/o Clynelish today...not heard of the bottler before, but sampling this bottle sold me. Also picked up a Springbank 12 CS, maybe my favourite standard SB...I don't get any sulphur on it at all. Finally grabbed a Four Roses SB for my wife because I am a good husband :-)

Picked up 2 Talisker 57's from my local helpful young fellow - He also had some Buffalo Trace in 375ml. bots. @ the old strength 45% abv. He had a few other treasures a couple of which I had him put aside til next time; A 17yo. Old Pultney 46% and a 21yo. that might have to wait 'til the time after next time. He has a Glenmorangie Signet as well at a reduced price and can get more (he thinks).

I've never seen 1/2 bottles of B/T and am looking to trying it! If it's as good as the 750ml. @ 45% I'll be a happy Dramer and that's a fact...Au$25.00 for the !/2 bots. is OK with me!
