@Pudge72 I don't suppose you live in Sudbury and have that bottle of A'bunadh on reserve, do you? Because it's calling to me too and it needs a proper home.

@Nozinan...thank you for the birthday wishes. Last Friday saw the arrival of the batch 47 bottle to my cabinet, along with a bottle of Dickel #12...a nice surprise from a good friend who is a big Dickel fan. Really loving the look of the Abunad'h. I'll likely hold off cracking it open until sometime in autumn...we shall see how long that lasts...it could get opened this weekend as part of a pre-autumn celebration. :)

@AdamH...the Sudbury A'bunadh's are safe for you to pick up. I haunt the southern portion of the province. :)

@paddockjudge I think the next bottle I purchase will be Forty Creek Evolution..... And the next one I open? Maybe that one, if I like it at the tasting....of course if I like it, there may be multiple purchases.......

My liquor guy is a true friend. I just purchased 2 bottles of Jefferson small batch bourbon $14 each and 2 bottles of Old Grand Dad 114 proof for $19 each. He gave me a sample of Springbank cask strength. I give samples of scotch all the time that I find while on travel. Thx Pete.

Unfavourable NAS times call for careful NAS measures. First it was picking up bottles of Macallan 12 Sherry Oak while we still have them here (and at less than half the price of TWE). Today's cautious planning involved putting away 4 Litres of Jim Beam Black Label (US domestic release) bourbon 8 years age stated. When the current stocks are gone, domestic release Jim Beam Black Label will be NAS. The Jim Beam Black is currently on sale here too, under $ 19 total for each Litre.
Those of you who like The Laddie Ten: we still have multiple bottles sitting on store shelves at close out prices, including the tax, of $ 34.87 per 750 ml.

Traded Bunnahabhain 12 Yr 2012 vintage for a bottle Aberlour 12y. I really hated the Bunnahabhain, it was awful. They guy I traded it to loved it. I know Aberlour 12 is no award winner but I'm happy. Anyone out there like Bunnahabhain 12 Yr? I might have had a bad bottle.

@Benancio, I've had bad Bunna 12 and very good Bunna 12. The bad one was 3 years ago, and the good one in the last year. Hard to tell what I'd think of your bottle unless I actually sampled some from it.

@Victor. The Bunn 12 might have been a little older than 2 years old. It was sour, smell not appealing, taste like bad distillation. What was your bad bottle like?

Purchased today and will open tonight one of two bottles of Russels Reserve; usually a fine 'drop' and on special, so even though I have many bottles of W/T. I think this is a notch (or so) better and the empty bot. makes a rather handsome decanter.
Cheers.

I got my annual raise yesterday and promptly placed my annual big whisky purchase:
•Benriach 17 YO heavily peated port finish "Solstice." I have a soft spot for peated Benriach based on some tasty IB stuff, though my optimism became a bit more guarded this week after opening a 10 YO "Curiositas" that to me seems like a peated husk. It's like an empty shell of peat that's missing the full range of middle flavors.
•Edradour Ballechin #3 port maturation. I earmarked this long ago after reading some positive reviews. I've never had a port-finished whisky, and now I'll two—both peated, too. Bring on the head-to-head!
•Charbay R5 hopped whisky—distilled Racer 5 IPA. This is the bottle I'm most excited about. I love hoppy beer and the Racer 5 I find especially good. The legendary old hopped distillate from Charbay (look it up with the LA Whisky Society) always sounded some awesome and perfect. I was really tickled to find something newer and comparable(?) on the market today for a reasonable price.
Peat an' hops gang thegither!

Aberlour A'bunadh Batch 49. Can't find any info but it just hit the MLCC in Manitoba, going to take a chance. Never tried this dram but have it on my wishlist.

@Jonesz, here's the Whisky Base page for your batch 49: whiskybase.com/whisky/57862/…
It only has one (positive) review there so far, but I imagine more will trickle in.

@OlJas Thanx for the Whiskybase review on A'Bunadh Batch 49. It does sound very nice indeed but will not be opened for a bit. Will look at it in anticipation for awhile, foreplay is more than half the enjoyment right? I was mistaken when I said I had never tried the dram before. My addled old brain forgot that Lars had supplied me with a sample of batch 36. It was very enjoyable. Thanx Lars. Jonesz

I look forward to hearing about how you like it. I haven't seen anything above 47 in Ontario but haven't gone into a liquor store lately.
I may hold out until the 50. I have a backlog of batches and a 46 and 2 47s waiting for me to hit those ages. I would be willing to "buy ahead" but the number has to be significant ( and have good reviews) or the reviews have to be strongly positive.
But I'd I saw a 44 or even a 45 I would get another. And any batch under 30.

@Benancio I had the Bun 12 once and it tasted like cabbage cooking water. Since it was my first Bun, I am now very reluctant to have another Bun. On the other hand , the next bottle I'll purchase is Taketsuru 17 while I have just opened a great Lot 40 2012.

@Robert99 You made me laugh. I'm with you on this one, I may never buy another bottle. It had a nose like hot garbage. I might start a thread on what causes scotch to go wrong.

@Nozinan: I thought Batch #22 A'Bunadh was very ordinary, indeed. It was heavily discounted here in Australia and Brisbane Duty Free was selling 3 for Au.$80.00 when the regular price was around $73.00 ea. I was pretty happy with my good luck until I opened one. No way of taking them back to the Arrivals Shop either. 2 duds out of 49 batches is not bad, though. I thought #41 was a joke but there were some reviews that were less scathing than my take.
Slainte.

@A'bunadhman
I came across a bottle of batch 28 in 2011 when I was at a conference. I didn't realize at the time that it was considered a superior batch. It had been there so long it was priced cheaper than the newer batches. I bought it simply because I didn't have one of that batch... then I read the reviews. One day I will open it. Just not sure when then...wish I had a spare.

Traded for Glen Ord James MacArthur's Fine Malt Selection 12 Year Old I got an Elk on a hunt last December. A friend of mine said he had fine bottle of scotch to trade. He offered me this bottle for 5lbs of meat. He said he purchased 2 in 2012. I never heard of Glen Ord. I read one real nice review on this bottle. Has anyone else tried it?
I caught some salmon while in Alaska this year. I brought him a salmon also, he reached into his bar and gave me a 1/2 open bottle of Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon 67.7 ABV. This bourbon is amazing. I'll drink this slowly this winter.

Picked up 2 bottles of the highwood 90 20 year old after reading all the discussion. I'm sure in the unlikely event that it isn't to my liking, I know one or two people who might relieve me of the burden, or is that bourbon ?
My wife called me from the DF in a NY airport. Have to say, the selection and price wasn't astounding, we finally settled on a liter of Laphroaig QC. It's about the price of 750 cc here at the KGBO.

Saw @paddockjudge praise of Highwood Ninety 20yr 100% corn but am still undecided on purchase. @Nozinan Saw the latest batch 49 Aberlour A'bunadh at my local but having just a few drams left of the excellent batch 45 might have to wait until 50 if I stick to intervals of 5.

@AdamH
49? At the LCBO? Haven't seen it in Toronto. Any notice of sightings would be appreciated. I have batches for all birthdays up to 47, I'm skipping 48 because I hear it isn't great, but will buy ahead if enough people give high praise.
I picked up the Highwood. No lose situation. IF I don't like it, I know people who do.
