Let's be honest: What is your weekly consumption of whisky?

I figure I'm averaging 750ml a week at 2 or 3 drams a night.

@whiskyshiba I mean your personal intake. Unless your drinking 3 bottles a week yourself!

Way too slow here. Between MCAT studies, cross-country move, new job, and a new baby, there is little time to relax. Luckily (in some respects...) i'm in L.A. on business for the next two weeks, so there will be some down time. I think I'll go see what the lobby bar has.

@Wodha, Yes, I personally am drinking 2-3 bottles/week. Usually an Eagle Rare 10, Ardbeg ANB, and a Yamazaki 12. But due to summer get togethers and bbq's, cases are being downed.

@Wodha, I'm old, retired, a grandpa and have too many whiskys to try and so little time...lol.

Also, I'm always about spreading the joy and love to share and always BMOC (bring my own cases).

My old business partner has a place in Bainbridge Is. on the water. Crab boils in summertime, good friends, and great whiskys to sample...Fun times.

I tend to drink about 30 - 50 ml a night, on about 4 - 5 nights a week, so rarely more than 250ml a week. The reason that I put it in those terms is that I vary between having a single normal sized drink, and having 3 or 4 tiny ones to taste and compare.

Since I am an avid cyclist, I don't drink the night before a ride. So , I do drink about 50-60ml of whisky 3 times a week. I would like to drink more, but I want to keep the pace with my riding buddies who are tasteless for alcohol of any sort (poor souls!!!). I would like my bottles to go empty earlier so that I can buy sometime else...

I've calmed my consumption quite a bit over the last few months so now I'm down to a 50ml dram four or five times a week.

It really depends on what I'm doing. I'm a shift worker so I work 50% evenings so 2 drams 3x week depending if I'm working evenings or not. Sometimes more sometimes less. I figure maybe 750ml/month.

@victoria USA medical opinion states "2 drinks a day for women, 3 for men" with drinks defined as 1 drink as a glass of wine, one 12oz beer or 1.5 ounces of spirits (1 dram).

UK recommended safe limits of alcohol suggest no more than 21 units per week for men (and no more than four units per day), 14 units per week for women (and no more than three units per day). A unit of alcohol works out at a single 25ml shot of spirits (at 40% ABV). In other words, the UK health authorities recommend no more than 525ml of spirits in a week for a man and 350ml for women, less if you are drinking alcohol stronger than 40%.

It gets worse, because four units work out as two pints of regular strength beer, two and a half small glasses of wine or pub measures of spirits.

America simplifies this further. The CDC classes 'heavy drinking' as anything more than two drinks per day, every day for men, one drink per day for women. They probably don't include cask strength whiskies.

It's a bit dreary, but I toned my drinking down considerably long before I got into good whisky. I use a measure and rarely drink more than two units per day and if I do, I take a day off.

As my father, drinking whisky his whole adult life and 80 years old says: All things in moderation including moderation.

Then again he ran marathons into his 60s, still runs an hour a day, chops wood with an axe and wrestles brown bears. Ok, I made the last bit up.

I feel sorry for women.

Maybe a few drams a week; my stuff will last for awhile. The Caol Ila I finished was over a year old (still good though!).

On average, I would say the equivalent of three, maybe four, 1 1/2 oz (about 50 mL) servings per week (and I wonder why all of my full size bottles are still at least 1/2 full!!).
