What to do with the leftovers?

Some people buy a bottle, enjoy it if it is good, and move on to the next find. I admire that and envy that.

Other people, like me, when they find something they like, experience FORO, and stock up. This can be made worse by FOMO, so that they try to get some of any new and promising whisky. When FOMO and FORO combine, the results can be overwhelming.

One of the paradoxes in the whisky world for people experiencing FORO, is that they don't have enough of any one expression to last their lifetime, but still have too much whisky to drink in several lifetimes.

So, for those of you in this situation.... what do you plan to do with the leftovers?

I have several plans.

  1. Technology progresses quickly enough that I can upload my consciousness into a Terminator (T-800) and live forever. I can then consume all my whiski.
  2. I eventually slow down my buying, have several large gatherings and consume all my whiski with friends and family.
  3. I leave my collection to my children once I’m gone.

I should add that my 2nd option isn't as far-fetched as it sounds. After my father-in-law passed in 2019, we had a gathering at our place and about 6 bottles of top-quality whiski (of all types) were shared that night. Good whiski is for sharing and enjoying.

@Nozinan "When FORO and FOMO combine..." Would that be FOROMO?

@Nozinan first we strove for the abundance, then we had to figure out what to do with it once we had successfully acquired it.

Your dilemma is also mine, with the many bottles. My late wife used to ask "What are we going to do with all of this whiski?" What, indeed? Drink it, we hope. But how to finish all of that product?

Well, we probably won't drink all of it ourselves. That seems to be the inevitable logical conclusion. Nonetheless managing abundance is more enjoyable than managing scarcity.
