I just finished my Crown Royal Blender’s Select. Pleasant enough dram, but for $20 less, I can buy Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 which is pretty similar in profile. I probably won’t replace that bottle or CRBS

Today we bid farewell to AP 30 and Booker's 2015-01, both bottles brought great pleasure to many...and we're not done yet, breaking for dinner.

@BlueNote That CB Flaming heart is a beauty, I'm watching the level of my bottle go down with some sadness but I am happy I got to share this with some fine folks,

A long opened bottle of Macallan 12 YO 40%abv, 6+ years, has been laid to rest. It was every bit as delicious on the last pour as it was on the first. It has been replaced by a 43 % version, another great bottle.

Jack Daniel's SB. A solid JD offering and my better half has already laid claim to the bottle for some bath potion lotion or other relaxed It was a very nice bottle to be fair!

Finishing the last of my Glenlivet 18. The last third was better than the first two. If I had to do it over, I’d drink a third, tuck it away for 8-12 months, and then re-visit it. But seeing as he price increased about 40% recently, I won’t be re-purchasing it.

Tonight I was grilling dinner, and my uncle was over. We finished the last of my Laphroaig Quarter Cask. This was a DF 1L bottle given as a gift by my wife's sister. Opened Dec. 31, 2014, it lasted almost 3 1/2 years, and was good from start to finish.

This won't be replaced for a while. I have a 10 CS open, a couple of 2015 Cairdeas (one of which is in line). If in the future I drink down my Laphroaig supply, I will consider searching Calgary for a 45 dollar bottle...

@Nozinan yep. The Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015 was also on list for opening. The floor malting aspect and it's effect on flavour (old school Laphroaig) has me intrigue.

I archive all my finished bottles to keep my cabinet current. So going off of that, looks like a standard Buffalo Trace and a Glenmorangie Lasanta.

I should note that I have now finished as many bottles as I did all of last year. Hopefully I'll put a way a few more heels by the end of the summer.

I finished my Redbreast Lustau with a friend last night. There was only enough left for two small pours (maybe 2 x 18-20 ml). I don’t imagine I’ll replace this bottle. I enjoyed it, but not enough to drop another $85 on it.

My friend returned the favour by pouring me a bit of Patron Silver special edition. I don’t know what made it special, nor did my friend. He laughed and said it was probably the cool bottle. He is a co-owner in a burgeoning coffee company and he frequently travels to Honduras to meet with his business partner. His partner always has treats for him, and this bottle was one of them. Now I know very little about tequila, other than what @Victor has shared with me. So while this particular tequila might be the Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve of tequilas, I enjoyed it. It wasn’t spectacular, but it wasn’t the horrid Jose Cuervo I use to shoot back in college. It’s a bit disorienting to try and place aroma and flavour notes that aren’t familiar, but I got black pepper, lime, brine, and a bit of chalkiness/wet rocks almost reminiscent of Talisker.

Just turned a bottle of Jim Beam Bonded upside down this evening, while watching 'Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation' in preparation for next week's release.

The movie was alright, the bourbon was better. As with most Bonded bourbons it was a good whisky with no particular faults. Not sure that I'll ever pick up another bottle though, as it wasn't jump up-and-down exciting either. Just a good, solid bourbon. Nothing wrong with that, I'd just rather try a different expression than go back to something I've already had.

@Nozinan Thanks! With my New Year's resolution to not buy any whisky this year, I find my engagement in other aspects of the hobby (forums, reviews, books, YouTube videos, etc.) to have decreased significantly too.

And yeah, it would be fun to get together at some point. I haven't stopped drinking the stuff, just buying it. relaxed

@Nelom I made it to May 21 before I bought my first bottle this year. It's been a little more than I would like since that time, but what I'm buying now won't be available next year (or probably ever). I'm actually ahead in purchases from this time last year, but Sept- Dec were killer months for me and I don't expect to purchase more than 2-3 bottles more in 2018.

2019 will be a tough year, as I will have a lot fewer almost finished bottles to drink (using them up this year) and make room new open bottles, making room for purchases.

I actually feel I can notice the change in my bank balance...

Nelom replied

@Nozinan Good job on reducing your purchases.

As for me, so far I'm staying the course, with zero bottles bought. When I made the resolution I did make a possible exception for this year's Northern Borders collection, but I'm pretty committed to not expanding beyond that. Not spending too much time learning about whisky from other sources has helped with that, as (for example) I didn't even realize until today that there was another Wiser's Rare Cask release. relaxed

I'm not sure that I've paid enough attention to notice it impact my bank balance, but obviously it has as over the past several years whisky was my number one hobby expenditure. I am noticing my shelf space opening up, and I'm definitely enjoying that.

Just finished a Wiser’s Triple Barrel Rye. After a Glendronach 12, two glasses of Wild Turkey Rare Breed, I need something a bit lighter. I’m not big on getting drunk on a random Wednesday in August.

Just finished a promising but disappointing bottle of Canadian Club Chairman’s Reserve 100% Rye. I don’t think I’ll buy this again unless they up the ABV %.

@OdysseusUnbound, don't pay $125 for Masterson's Batch 015. It is a nice whisky, but not $125 nice. There were some very nice batches of Masterson's 10 YO Straight Rye: 003, 005, 001. I hope there will be more to come. Keep an eye out for this one when state side, you might see a better price.

@RianC in your opinion, and who ever wants to chip in - talisker 57 or 18? Which is closer to heaven? Price wise they're almost the same here.

RianC replied

@RikS - I think the 18 is the better whisky but both are very, very good. I got the 57 for a great price a few months back but still think c£75 for the 18 is good value. Possibly the finest malt I've had so far . . .

The 57 at £50 though and I'd probably get that one!
