Don Julio 1942 tequila. Bottle opened 3 August 2013, finished 18 August 2023. It is not uncommon for me to nurse a bottle over many years, particularly if 1) I like it, 2) the flavours are holding up well over a long period of years, AND 3) it is expensive or impossible to replace.

A bottle of Kilkerran 12 yo has been killed. It was a great one.

Monday morning I received word that a close friend of the family had died. She was 79.

She was a very unique person, and was very active in my cultural community (which is very small). She also supported my in my political campaigns (my fist time she raised about 90% of my donations). She was one of those people who always got things done, and could always get me to do things...

I remembered that she liked scotch. I don't know if we ever had scotch together, maybe once. But I decided to finish off the last 15 cc of my bottle of Aberlour A'Bunadh tonight (opened in April 2018 and apparently last poured almost 2 years ago), because just like her, it was great until the very end.

Rest in Power

@NamBeist I'm just about to open one that I've had for about 2 years. I hope it's as good as yours was.

@Nozinan Those special people are with you as long as you remember them. She would probably want you to keep fighting for election, at least until Ontario is no longer a Ford dealership. Probably shouldn't get political here, so I think I'll pour a dram of Balblair 15 that's been calling my name and think more pleasant thoughts.

Cheers.

I just finished the last dram of my second (third?) bottle of Gooderham & Worts 49 Wellington 19 year old on Thursday night. While I still enjoyed this whisky a great deal, I’m not sure I’d rate it 92/100 like I did when I first reviewed it. Perhaps this bottle wasn’t quite as good, perhaps my palate has changed a bit but it seemed a little less complex than my previous bottles. I’d rate this last bottle around 88/100.

Second bottle kill of 2024. I just finished the last of my Caol Ila 17 YO unpeated Cask strength. First opened September 20 2016, this one lasted over 7 years. I'm happy to make some room in my cabinet, even happier that there is another bottle of this stored away for another day.

Third bottle kill of 2024. I just reviewed this one a few days ago along with batch 20. Both are delicious. This last dram was probably even better than the dram I reviewed. I will miss this Springbank

By focusing on long neglected bottles that are well-preserved and almost finished, I am hoping to make room for new bottles when they get opened. And I’m re-acquainting myself with some pretty good whisky.

A bottle of Compass Box Orchard House was finished by my wife and me the last weeks. It is a delicious sipper. Recommended!

@NamBeist I bought a bottle specifically to see if I can convince my wife to drink it. Not open yet. Wish me luck.
