i live in ontario, canada. i love it here, but liqour prices are pretty outrageous. the most expensive bottle i have purchased to date is a glenrothes 1985, at a cost of 165 CAD at the lcbo. i like it very much, but i doubt i would pay that again. i have purchased bottles that i enjoy as much ,or more, for far less. i doubt i'll ever shell out more than 500 CAD for a bottle of anything, anywhere....

$ 163.50 for a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet is the most I have ever spent on a bottle. Worth it? Probably, once in awhile. That's the price for a scarce unusual bottle. I couldn't at this point in whisky history add that distinctive flavour profile to my collection without ante-ing up the scratch. I do have a few whiskies I like better than Signet for which I paid 40% of that amount. Under current conditions $ 300 is the max I can imagine ever spending on a whisky, and I can only think of two on which I would spend that amount (commercial resale opportunities excluded): 1967 40 yo Duncan Taylor Springbank and Willett "Iron Fist" 23 yo Straight Rye Whiskey.

The most I've spent is $160 for a bottle of Auchentoshan 21 just last week. I won't be opening it until July however I do believe it will be worth it. I think I would spend up to around $200 but there are so many affordable whisky's out there that spending that at amount will rarely happen.

The most we've ever paid for a bottle was this weekend, $127.49 USD for Port Charlotte 7. It beats out the $121.99 USD we paid for Balvenie 21 Portwood earlier this year. Both bottles are still sealed. We'd sampled them at a previous time and felt that both were worth the money.

I've spent way too much in the past, I try to cap it at 150GBP or $250, but I can be led a stray by certain names.. Ardbeg, Brora and Port Ellen to name the three most likely to make me break the rules..

About $160 I think for a Balvenie peated...worth it is subjective. The first bottle was a gift from my wife for getting a promotion, the second was because she liked the first. :-)

2999.40 NOK = 326.75 GBP for a bottle of Adelphi Lochside 1965. And yes, most definitely worth it. The best dram I've ever had. This is probably my limit as well.

So far the most my wife and I have paid for a bottle of whisky is $200 AUD. The bottles were Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix, Shackleton's Old Highland Malt Whisky and Old Pulteney 21 yr old.

Was it worth it? Snow Phoenix and Old Pulteney needed to come from the UK, and I'm including shipping, handling and any customs paid on them. Snow Phoenix was worth it for my wife and myself. We haven't tried the Old Pulteney yet, but we sure hope so! Shackleton's wasn't worth it in our minds, however after having it open for a couple months I've noticed some improvement.

Being over here in Australia and especially living in Perth where some really good bottles can be extremely expensive or hard to find and being that for a lot of what I want I have to import I think I'd go up to $300ish for a bottle. But it'd have to be something special. That being said there are quite a few bottles that are quite good that one can get for quite abit less.

My Wife brought me back a Port Ellen 22yo. from the Rare Malts Series @ 60.5abv. She purchased it in Bath (UK). and paid duty..."I'm not going shopping for you again, mate", said she; but she has and she does!... "How much was it then?", "Don't ask, just make it last!"

Was it as good as three bottles of A'bunadh? I think not but it was a wonderful experience - A true 'sipper' that didn't take kindly to water or pure rain (?).

The most i've spent was £199.98 on a 30yr Tomatin Oloroso finish, was one of 1500 if i remember correctly, distilled in 1976, and purchased by me in late 2010, finished by me in late 2011. I thought it was a beaatiful dram, i enjoyed it but wouldnt go and spend another £200 on the same bottle, if that makes sense?

I spent 199$ USD on a Glenfarclas 1974 31 yr old , I love the whisky but I don't think I would spend the amount again on a whisky again . There are alot of great whisky for under $50 USD , but it was a nice treat.

$200 for a bottle of Talisker 25. Saving it for a special day : ) I think I would be willing to pay up to $325 or so. However, Port Ellen and Laphroaig 30 certainly tempt me to exceed that....someday.

I bought a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue for about $300 a couple years ago and that was the most I've paid to date for a bottle. I still haven't opened it but I know I wouldn't spend that money again on Blue label. I would, however, gladly spend that money on a bottle of single malt for a special occasion. For me, as long as my income and expenses balance the way I want them to I'm ok with being a bit of a whisky hedonist.

So far, the top cost that I have actually paid was $80 ($10 off at the time) for Jefferson's Presidential Select 18 yo. I have been lucky enough to have received several gifts that I know have cost more. On my wishlist, I have a couple of Glenfarclas Family Cask bottles that I would love to get (the 1976 in particular, as it is my birth year bottle), but would easily cost over $400. If I ever get the opportunity to purchase these bottles, it would likely only be accomplished by forgoing whisky purchases for six months or more.

I guess my answer is $425 since I purchased a 2 bottle lot in a silent auction for $850. They were 1) a Laphroaig 30 YO and 2) a Laphroiag 10 YO bottled in 1968. I don't think the 30 is worth $425, but having tasted another bottle of the 1968 I had no problem going this high for the pair. Don't know where my limit is as I've been looking at a birth year Glenfarclas family cask that would probably set me back around $1000. The problem is that while I'm willing to pay the price, unless I decide to go back to work my wife might not be a happy camper (and she would definitely know if the bottle said 1953 50 YO scotch it would have been big bucks)

$325 Port Ellen 25yr

I was disappointed when I first tried it. I thought it would knock my socks off. I came back to it recently and fell in love with it. Subtle, briny, sweet, a bit industrial, but still light. Just amazing.

I believe we are talking about the price one has paid for a bottle, used for drinking an not collecting, right? Since I have a couple Toshan in my collection that are over the £350/$550 mark, while finally intended for consumption, they will remain closed for quite a while. So the highest price I've paid for a bottle would have to be £300/$450 for a bottle of Port Ellen 7th Release. I try not to spend this kind of money on bottles, though, and try more expensive bottles by trading/buying samples. @Lars, you have made a good choice on the Toshan 21. It will not dissappoint, I'm sure!

A few years back I paid $350 for a bottle of Brora 25 year old (the 2008 at release). I had tried a few Brora's in the past that were very heavily peated with tons of farm yard notes. This was much more refined and and subtle. I was extremely disappointed. I wish I had set the bottle aside for a few years. Sadly, I finished it with much regret. I will be hard pressed to pay that much again for a bottle. I really want to know what I am getting before I shell out more then $100.

$220 for Ardbeg Supernova. Probably not worth it. It was very good, but it wasnt good enough to be double the cost of ANB, or Corryvrekan. Unless a lotto win comes in, I cant see myself paying more than about $120. There are just to many awesome whiskies around the $100 mark for me to justify spending greatly more than that.

@BlueNote, NB as I write this Balvenie 21 Portwood is Number 4 on the Hit Parade, aka Connosr Most Popular Highest rated bottles. Number 4 out of what, 7,000 or 8,000 whiskies? Sounds horrible.

Balvenie 21 yo Portwood has been a favourite of mine for a very long time.
