Just eating a bit of Bavarian Smoked Cheese and poured a glass of 10yr old Glenmorangie, and can now taste quite predominantley, cherries and dark chocolate - never tasted those in a bog standard 10yr old Glenmorangie. Any one else had strange or new flavours be it good or bad when eating cheese and drinking whisky?

I have always thought whisky and food should be paired, just like wine & cheese. I think it would be easy to argue that the complexities in whisky vastly outweigh those of wine. A few years back, we had a cheese and whisky tasting at our house. I went to "the" best cheese shop in town to get some advise. But unfortunately, she was not a whisky drinker, so when i asked for cheese suggestions, we cam home with some pretty mild cheeses. I wish i'd posted the event on our web site (www.dipsophilia.com), as i don't remember the results. Moslty the whisky overpowered the cheese, except a nutty hard European cheese i believe. Can't remember what we paired it with. I will see if my husband saved our notes. If i recall it was not one of the Islay whiskies...they were too much. But likely a speyside.

I regulary have dark chocolate with a dram. Right now it is a 100% peruvian chocolate. Take a wee bit of chocolate and let it melt on the roof of your mouth. Then a sip of whisky, slowly letting it sit on the taste buds. Repeat. I find the Balvenies are particularly good with chocolate.

A note on our web site - hasn't been updated since February (for current events) but there are loads of whisky, gin & vodka reviews, as well as reviews of events we have attended, such as HP food pairng events.

Roquefort cheese (the authentic thing, not the cheap "made in EU" blue cheese) and Lagavulin Distiller's Edition finished in PX casks. A battle of Titans. Might be able to substitute Stilton instead of Roquefort.
