Well, it was a nice event. They said there were about 350 whiskies to choose from, and there was a view of the Hudson River and a Scottish punk band with one heck of a bagpiper playing solos, complete with kilt and mohawk.
Highlights of the evening for me were the Talisker 25, Talisker 30 (really outstanding), Laphroaig 25, and a number of independent bottlings from Gordon & MacPhail and the Brandy Library. I also got to taste a few Amruts and Sullivan Coves finally to see what all the fuss was about.

@McTeague Nice to hear when people go along to events. What did you think of the Sullivan's Cove? Did the high expectations just set you up for a bit of a let down? I know this happens with me when tasting something that I've heard great things about.

@systemdown My reaction was "interesting, but not my type". It has a nice balance and is slightly more than medium flavored and bodied. But personally, I don't think I've ever had a whisky aged in anything but ex-bourbon or ex-sherry casks that I've really been crazy about. So the port influence wasn't really to my taste. But if someone pours me a glass, I'll be glad to reconsider my first impression!

Thanks for your thoughts, yeah tastes are entirely personal after all. I have my favourite styles and as with you, Port doesn't rate for me as highly as a great Sherry or Bourbon product (although it could just be that I haven't tried enough Port matured / finished expressions to know).

This is tonight. Anyone here going?
Does anyone know if they send out a pour list? I can't find one anywhere.
