Wiser's Rye

So has anybody tried the new JP Wiser's Rye? I am not sure if it is exclusively available in the United States or also sold in Canada or perhaps elsewhere. I recently saw it at the state run stores in Virginia for about US$25. Based on the limited internet information, it appears to be very new and perhaps an instance of the lowly Virginia stores getting a leg up on new products.

I've only tried two Wiser expressions, the Deluxe which I did not like and the Legacy which is outstanding. Unfortunately the label for Wiser's Rye describes it as having a toffee flavor which is not something I usually prefer. Still, if it is closer to the Legacy than the Deluxe, it could be worth trying.

@JeffC It seems to be a US-only bottling...a quick scan of the Wiser's US web site shows only three expressions: Wiser's Rye, Wiser's Spiced, and Wiser's 18. The Wiser's Canadian site shows seven expressions: Deluxe, Spiced, Special Blend, Small Batch, 18yr, Legacy, and Red Letter. Comparing the tasting notes from both web sites I'd guess that the Wiser's Rye available in the US is simply the Wiser's Deluxe that is available here in Canada (the notes are identical).

interesting about the tasting notes on the Canadian page for the Deluxe version being the same as the Rye version in the US. The Deluxe version was available in Virginia a year or two ago. It would not surprise that a large drinks company would try to relabel an identical product to take advantage of the US rye boom and charge $5 more per bottle for the same thing.

@JeffC Especially since it is a "Blended Canadian Whisky" that has been exported to the US, it is possible that it has been blended with other things. While it is called 'Rye', there is no mention of it being a straight rye...anyone else more knowledgeable about US standards of identity for imported foreign spirits care to chime in here?

Haven't had any of the new stuff, but I can vouch for the 18. It's a solid dram for the money.

It's definitely worth the money. I found a few flaws in it but overall it was a really nice dram. I thought it had too much grain alcohol in it but everyone else I sipped it with didn't seem to mind.
