When we visited Wolfburn in September 2022, we had the misfortune that the Bottle Your Own was not available. The previous cask had been emptied a few days before by the visitors and they had not yet had (made?) the time to prepare a new one. I confess, that was a disappointment. But in the shop, there was a bottle that I hadn't seen before, so I took it with me. Nice Valentine bottle, it seems to me, this Love Potion.
It smells relatively young and offers soft fruity notes like apricots, pears and peaches, with a floral hint. In addition, some cakes and something dusty. Subtle spiciness. Wet stones overgrown with moss. This is okay-ish.
The body is fine. However, the fruit has some trouble showing itself, because the spiciness takes the reins. Licorice, ginger, nutmeg, pepper and a pinch of cinnamon. Also, some woody tannin, which makes it quickly a bit dry and even somewhat astringent. Darn, I expected more of this. He is also quite alcoholic.
The finish is long, but quite drying, slightly bitter and spicy. Something of chestnuts on the deathbed.
If I were to call my malt Love Potion, I would have made sure it was a little sweeter. This one is dry and spicy and is honestly very disappointing.
