Here we are then! A new version of the site and a new chapter in the story of Whisky Connosr. We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped shape this community, we massively appreicate every bit of input along the way.

It has been a long day here so I'm going to keep this brief and will be providing more detailed updates in this post over the next 24 hours.

Thanks again for all your support over the last seven years.

Cheers from @jeanluc & @pierre

There's lots to say about the new site - more than I can write tonight - but I do want to state that this is the first release of a new platform which will see many iterative improvements over the coming weeks, months and years. What an exciting new site I have to admit it's going to take a while to figure out how it all works.

Questions I would like to ask (which I'm sure will be answered in the fullness of time) include:

  1. Has the buddy system been replaced with a twitter-like following and followed system? And can you send messages only to people you follow and who follow you?

  2. It looks like the cabinet history has been merged with the active cabinet. Is there a way of deleting unwanted items in the cabinet?

That's all I can think of for now. I'm really happy about the option of emojis. I'm wondering if the site supports other alphabets?

Congratulations!

That is correct. We have converted confirmed buddies to reciprocal followers.

It looks like the cabinet history has been merged with the active cabinet. Is there a way of deleting unwanted items in the cabinet?

Yes, we have this flagged in the cabinet database but it's just not separated out yet in the interface yet. There are few bits of functionality still to add around the cabinet which will go in this week.

@chrisbator we seem to have found one, yes. I have disabled the email alerts on discussions for now. I'll drop you an email Sir.

@Nelom how do you edit posts?

the editing function doesn't seem to work for reviews yet, and I thought I saw an icon for posts but I can't find it now.

I also found some other interesting things:

Old private messages both sent and received together, but no way to see new messages sent.

@jeanluc I am not complaining...just drawing attention to things that may not have been noticed.

Edit: And now I se an edit icon. Does it disappear after a certain time?

@Nozinan You can edit review for an hour after writing them. Comments for 15 mins.

This is intended to prevent too much revisionism but allow typos and mistakes to be fixed in a timely fashion.

@Nozinan
Nozinan replied

@jeanluc I see. I think that's an excellent feature. It really is in the moment after "submit' is clicked that all the typos manifest themselves.

@Nozinan thanks, I think 15 mins is fine for this. Let's see what the general feeling is.

Just wondering what we do about formatting. There were a bunch of tricks for lines and BOLDS before. Will there be a user guide?

EDIT: well, given that all the formatting from WORD disappeared, I'm thinking it's going to be something altogether new.

Looks pretty snazzy! Thanks for the detailed list of enhancements above—and, of course, for the enhancements themselves.

The new design is pretty sleek. Nice work there. I'll let you know if I have other feedback as I explore.

Question (or maybe a suggestion if the answer is "no"): The All Whisky Reviews page now shows some "stats" to help you browse the list, including the number of hearts and the scores. Can you see the number of comments too? I find the chat attached to a review to often be more interesting than the review itself, so I would browse and click on reviews that have the most comments.

And I bit of "I don't like it and I know it's just my taste" feedback on the new main page: The huge video that plays in the background is dominated by people I would stereotype (yeah, I know!) as "douchey hipsters." Except for the gals drinking on the rainy balcony, I can't see relating to any of those people. I reckon it's risk to show any people at all.

EDIT: What am I doing wrong in paragraph 3 to make that text a link to the All Whisky Reviews page? I'm following the example in the text formatting guide and I've tried a few variations on it.

More feedback: It looks like the Timeline page is the new equivalent of the old main page for seeing what's new, and it's much better in that:

•It's reverse-chronological so you don't have to sit through the older stuff you already know about.

•It's endlessly expandable ("load more") so you can see what's been going on even if you've been away for more than a day or two.

•It's filterable so you can see (for example) just the new reviews, comments, and topics, without sifting through who's now buddies with whom.

That's great!

@Nozinan:

Did you see the formatting guide. I've added a link in the footer for now. It's also linked at the bottom of the comment box.

@Ol_Jas:

  1. Yes, that's a good point and we'll add the comment count on the review lists.

  2. Make sure there's no space between the brackets i.e [text](link) not [text] (link). I've fixed that one for you.

  3. Feedback taken on board about the video - we'll be mixing it up with lot's of clips hopefully including distillery shots and other scenes - and the plan was to collapse the video when you are signed-in anyway.

Will we get back the Connosr Top 100 Rated List? That's my favourite single feature on the site. Looks like it could sit (once again as "Popular") to the right of 'World' on the 'Whisky' page.

I wonder if you can do italics and bold together. I see the answer. no

Interesting, I intended an italic in a comment I just made on a review but it came out in bold

edit - and so did it this time. I guess if you put 2 underscores in front and after the word it is bold and if you put one it is italic
