Mr Duthies was a cousin of William Cadenheads. He ran WM Cadenhead Ltd from 1904 until his untimely death in 1931. It was this Duthies that gave Cadenhead the reputation it now enjoys as bottler of single malts and rum. The Italian bottler Samaroli got quite a few of his legendary casks from Mr Duthies. The range, originally only 6 single malts, has expanded considerably. They are all non chill-filtered and uncoloured. I've tried the 16 Year Old Auchentoshan before, now lets turn to the 19 Year Old, which was originally bottled for the German market. The difference on the nose with the 16 Year Old is huge. This one bursts with vanilla, but has a lot more depth to it (rice pie and pudding) with some citrusy notes (lime, pink grapefruit) and sweetness. I'm reminded of apple fritters at the local fair. This one has a clean nose as well. Slightly less creamy, this one is very delicate on the palate. There is a wonderful balance between the clean, sweet oak and the spicy vanilla. Soft and sweet. Utterly drinkable.

The finish is neither long nor short, but lovely sweet.

This one is much better than his three year younger counterpart. Ideal drink during an evening in front of a good movie or playing a boardgame with friends.
