@Robert99 I can highly recommend Charlie Maclean's book, Malt Whisky: The Complete Guide. I'm reading it at the moment. A good guide to the History of Whisky, a very detailed description of the entire manufacturing process, guide to tasting and a guide to the different malt regions of Scotland. Great reading.

@Robert99 give this one try... it is very scientific and covers many aspects... perfect for the Whisky Anorak!
Whisky: Technology, Production and Marketing (Handbook of Alcoholic Beverages) Hardcover – August 28, 2003 amazon.com/Whisky-Technology-Production-Mar…
Just also saw there is a 2nd edition but the table of contents looks completely different : amazon.com/Whisky-Second-Edition-Technology…

Hands down. A new book by Lew Bryson called Tasting Whiskey. FANTASTIC! Everything from how it is made, to the breakdown of different bourbon mash bills, to flavor profiles, to cocktails, to food pairing and so much more. Greatest whiskey book I have ever read.

I would like to read about how whisky is made but with all the technical details. I would like to know the advantage and disadvantage of each kind of alambic. Which varietal barley and yeast is used. What is the chemistry involved with the sugar, the air, the wood, the water. Etc. So, you know, a serious book, as if I would like to make my own whisky. So, any suggestion?
