Currently self-isolating in my bedroom which luckily has an en suite. Have been since developing symptoms on Saturday afternoon.

My symptoms seem to be improving for now. Although. I know they can suddenly worsen again with this horrible virus.

As a healthcare worker I was prioritised for a test which I went for today. That was a weird experience. Being waved into lanes by lines of people wearing masks 'keep your windows up...drive there etc' the actual testing was carried out by army medics. Whole experience was like being in a zombie apocalypse film or something. Both scary and surreal. Get my results in 3 or 4 days.

Thank everyone for the messages of support. Very much appreciated.

My test results confirm I have Covid-19. I continue to recover and can come out of isolation tomorrow. I've got a few fairly minor residual symptoms of aches and pains in my back and abdomen that's about it for now. I just want to get through the weekend without dipping again to feel really confident I've beaten it.

Unfortunately despite my best efforts of isolating, my middle daughter now has symptoms. I guess it was inevitable. There's 5 of us in a standard sized UK house so we live pretty close to each other. We're all going to get it in all likelihood.

I feel the pain of having a teenager with covid-19 more than I do my own bout of coronavirus. 'It's stupid. Breathing exercises are dumb. Isolating is pathetic' etc. I can't help feel the WHO should just ditch the experts and ask teenagers what to do seeing as they know everything!

Oh and I've allowed myself an 'eve of isolation ending' dram tonight first one in a week and I've just found out my sense of smell and taste has gone sob

@Wierdo good to hear you're coming out the other side of it now ok. Sorry to hear about your daughter - it will be tough on the whole family. Hopefully your senses of taste and smell will be back again soon - whisky will never have tasted so sweet. Kia kaha (be strong).

@Wierdo - Mixed emotions for you a bit but glad you're on the mend, mate! Sorry to hear about your daughter. Was saying to Jade the other day that we're pretty lucky having two little ones, I'd imagine a teenage household being, erm, challenging, shall we say?! smile

That Laph CS will blow anything away ...

@Wierdo, good to know you are on the mend. Having survived the dramatic teenage reign of two daughters, (my son was a breeze) I fear the worst of your COVID-19 episode is ahead of you. Stay strong.

The Covid-19 has been very hard on musicians. I just got some disconcerting news from a pretty reliable source. Apparently, Dan Brubeck and his brother ( I think it is Darius) are both victims of the virus and are both currently on ventilators. They are the sons of Jazz great Dave Brubeck and have been recording and touring as the Brubeck Brothers Band. I hope it’s not true, but the source is quite close to Dan who owns a house in our area. He is currently in a New York hospital and his brother is in London. I’ll play one of their CDs later and send some healing thoughts their way. I will also dig out an appropriate dram.

Don’t let up on the social distancing, hand washing and staying home as much as possible. It’s a long way from over. It’s starting to sound like a cliche, but stay safe everyone.

Speaking of musicians who are affected by Covid-19, This is a set by Gary Lucas, who collaborated with Captain Beefhart, Jeff Buckley, and many others. He also does amazing class film soundtrack music (like The Golem) He does these performances (and has a PayPal account). Gary is the King of Open Tunings.

This stream/performace was dedicated to Hal Wilner, who passed from Covid-19 a few days ago. Wilner was a music producer for SNL but is most widely know for his projects involving, Disney, Kurt Weil, etc. (which always took place in NYC). The albums and shows he produced are really memorable--incredible variety.

This is the archive of shows. garylucas.com/www/streams/streams.shtml

This episode is about his collaboration with Beefhart (and also Zappa), also the Fleisher Brothers (Betty Boop and Popeye). Pre-code jams from way back. He's playing stuff from an album called Fleisherei. The man's hands are from another planet.Three times a week, I get my ears and wallet ready.

Thanks for the message of concern from everyone.

I finally feel like I've beaten it these last 2 days. Was a hell of a rollercoaster though. In all I had symptoms for around 9 days. Which is a long time to have a virus. Since I posted on here that I felt I was recovering I took one final downturn. With the 9th day being one of the worst days. I'd been steadily feeling like I was recovering and then I woke up on day 9 feeling like absolute shit. Virtually back to square one, high temperature, aching all over etc. Psychologically that was pretty devastating, thinking I was back to the start. Had me thinking some pretty dark thoughts 'am I actually going to beat this?'

I've heard since that other people have had the same experience. They think they're getting over it and then they have one last 'bad day' and then they're clear of it. Seems like a feature of the virus for a lot of people. I'd defintely say that the virus is as much of a psychological challenge as it is a physical challenge. Feeling terrible day after day really takes it's toll on you. The whole experience was pretty brutal. Thankfully like I said I think I'm finally over it and just feel drained now.

Sense of smell and taste not back to normal yet. I poured a dram of Old Pulteney last night. Took one sniff, heaved and poured it back in the bottle. The smell of alcohol currently makes my stomach turn.

Glad to hear you are on the mend. I would still advise caution. It took me 5 weeks to get over it fully with multiple relapses. Take it very easy and don’t over do it, otherwise it may flair up again. Keep well.

@Wierdo I'm really glad to hear that you are on the mend. I thought that I was over it, but my breathing (lungs) is not right. Fortunately, I don't have to physically exert myself too much and have plenty of protective gear (so other people don't have to worry). We have a stockpile of hand sanitizer and ingredients for making more.

I'm concerned that people in my state want to do a live protest this weekend--without masks and gloves. In Michigan, the nuts were blocking ambulances. This is like anti-vaxxers with guns: very American in all the worst ways (not like bourbon).

"Give my liberty, or give me death!" Well, life is full of choices... I'm sure that everyone will remember the great sacrifices of these rightwing snowflakes.

So, my oldest son's birthday is tomorrow. He likes Red Velvet cake so my wife and I made one from scratch and did a drive by cake and present drop-off. (He has an apartment) It's holidays and events like birthdays that really remind you how much this quarantine sucks!
