Distribution of ratings for this:
Nose: at full strength, somewhat closed. I get aromas of creamy caramel and vanilla, fairly typical of Canadian blended whisky. Opens up with the addition of water to reveal herbal rye notes, especially dill and pine. Hints of citrus peel. Higher above the glass I find a whiff of menthol which becomes predominant as the glass breathes.
Taste: full-bodied without water, and a bit hot, with citrus and mineral notes. Water brings out an herbal-floral bouquet as well as a delicate orange-vanilla sweetness.
Finish: a fairly long, entirely consistent fade on prickly rye notes.
Balance: as you can see from the scores this whisky offers a fairly consistent ride from start to finish. A very nice entry into the high-rye category which seems to be exploding in Canada. At this price point, Wiser's Double Still Rye will surely find its way into my regular rotation.
