A training partner of mine is heading off to the navy for a half dozen years tomorrow, so we went own to the Lark and did a tasting of four Lark Distillery bottlings, as well as two other drams. This was the third of the afternoon.
The initial sniffs reveal the Lark Distillery signature maltiness with notes of sweet caramel, the barest fruity note - I found it too hard to get a handle on specifically which fruit, and a hint of alcohol burn. The nose on this cask strength was surprisingly gentle and subtle. It feels like a lot more is going on here than I can describe, but I only got the one glass, so I couldn't go back to the well too many times.
The taste starts with a gentle spicy cinnamon that is quickly mixed with a wave of butterscotch, sweet corn and caramel. Really rich and far more powerful than the nose.
The finish was long and hot - a continuation of the taste, spicy cinnamon (which did leave a little tingle on my lips) melding with the butterscotch and caramel.
Another really solid above-average whisky that would go down well as a dessert dram.
Does anyone know of a stockist of Lark Distillery whiskies in the UK?
