I deplore the fact that I missed Edition No 1, but No 2 and 3 are in front of me right now, so let me try those H2H. Edition No 2 is a collaboration between Macallan’s Bob Delgarno and the three Spanish well-known chefs from El Cellar de Can Roca (best restaurant of the year, twice!), the brothers Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca. It is a combination of sherry puncheons, butts and refill hogsheads.

Gingerbread, raisins, toffee, mocha, mandarin, Ovomaltine, brown bread, autumn leafs, baked apples and mapely syrup. A hint of espresso and some Cadbury’s milkchocolate with dried fruit in the mix. Nicely sweet and quite complex. This nose has a lot on offer.

The mouthfeel is just fine. Round, creamy and immediately grand on spices and fruitiness. Peppers, ginger, apricot pastry, blueberries and cinnamon. Brown toast with orange marmalade. Liquorice and honey. Very pleasant.

The creaminess turns syrupy in the long finish full of peppers and raisins, with sugared orange peel at the death.

A sweet and intense Macallan that took me by surprise, but in a very good way.

@markjedi1 Nice review Mark,I've tasted this twice once in store and another time courtesy of @Robert99. I quite liked this too, my impressions are very close to your tasting notes. I found it a touch chaotic but still by far one of the better of the recent crop of Macallan's I've tasted.

@markjedi1 I, for myself, find it a little rough but my experience was close to you in general. Last time I had a sip was with @cricklewood and the bottle had been opened for only a week with only a small dram gone; so my impression was that it needed at least a month of air to improve and brake the edges.

The same night, @cricklewood offered me a pour of an Arran 23 yo SB released for Kensington Market, if I remember correctly, that blew me away and left the Macallan 2nd Ed far behind. The balance of the Arran enhanced the chaotic side of the Macallan.
