We know Macduff mostly as the distillery behind the Glen Deveron whisky, named after the river on which banks the distillery sits. This Highland distillery was built in 1962 and their whisky is the fingerprint malt in William Lawson’s. A few months ago the single malt was rebranded and is now simply called The Deveron. There is a 10, 12 and 18 years old. But I will try a young animal from the Douglas Laing stables. Their Provenance series was rebranded as well, mostly because nobody gave a damn in what season the whisky was distilled. Now every region has its own color, the Highlands got a purple label. This Macduff 8 Year Old 2007, a single cask at 46%, was released in November 2015. It is extremely pale.

The nose is grainy and sweet on butter. Pancake batter. Gooseberry and lime and some Haribo bears. Very candy-like.

The arrival is rather light. Not a lot of body, I am afraid. The taste is okay, although it is a bit too grainy to my taste. Close to the grain, I believe this is called. Grass, green apples, breakfast cereals, but little else.

The finish os short and sweet.

Far from great, but it did go very well with my wife’s apple fritters. Around 50 EUR. Thanks, Imanuel.
