Millars Special Reserve

Millar's today is a blend of malt and grain whiskies from Cooley. Originally, this blend was created by Adam Millar & Co in Dublin, Ireland. The history goes back to 1843 and the blend was marketed succesfully as Premium Irish Whiskey until 1970. Millar's was dubbed the 'classic Dublin sipping whiskey', usually served next to a good pint of Guinness. In the 90s, he received two bronze medals at the International Spirits Challenge.

The nose is prickly and sweet, quite spicy and flowery with cereals and malt. I'm pleasantly surprised.

On the palate, this blend is very fresh and light, fruity and crispy. There is a wonderful balance between the sweet malt on the one hand and the spices from the oak cask on the other hand. Quite nice, but just a tad too light to my taste.

The finish is medium in length and offers nothing new, but is nevertheless very pleasant.

I must admit, I didn't expect much from this blend, but Millar's Special Reserve exceeded my expectations effortlessly. It's a nice, honest blend that you can enjoy with friends while watching some telly or playing cards.

I have to agree with @LeFrog, it's great that you've suggested a pastime at which to enjoy the whiskey! I go to poker nights with friends every now and then but rarely take a bottle of decent whisky due to the concentration on the cards rather than anything else, however this may be something to think about for a future event!

I like that you have suggested a pass time to accompany this whiskey!
