@boatracer, maybe it's the outlines of that pilsner-looking glass you are using as an image, but when I see "boatracer" I keep thinking "someone who sketches snakes". Maybe I am drawn to snakes more than to boats.

@Victor didn't you go on a tasting cruise on a boat once? you can't do that with snakes

@Victor "boa-tracing" or "boat-racing" were euphemisms for university beer drinking competitions which I may or may not have taken part in. Hence the 8-oz pilsner glass as my avatar. relaxed

@boatracer, interesting and informative to know. But isn't putting up a beer avatar on a whisky site sort of like bringing a knife to a gun fight?

@Victor We will just say that I have graduated to the finer things in life. Still enjoy beer, but whisky is where I am at right now.

@Paddockjudge I read the reviews of the NBC whiskies by the SoT, and I am not sure anymore about my interest for them, excepting Lot 40 CS. Of course De Kergommeaux is raving about most of them but ... Well, it's him. So, I am turning to you as a reliable source of information and would really appreciate your opinion. I am especially curious about the 35 yo. $165 is cheap for a 35 yo whisky but it is way too much for an average whisky. If it is close to the 18, as some are saying, I will not pay close to $100 more for it.

@Victor sometimes a knife is better than a gun... especially for removing bullets.

And if it's in a bar, you can remove the seal on Bulleit better than with a gun

@Robert99 They were all tasty. The Lot 40 CS and the Little trinity I flagged as "worth buying". I'm sure the 35 is good too (a colleague of mine says it's fantastic). But a little to rich for my blood.

@Robert99 I really liked them all but the Lot 40 CS really stood out for me. I did really like the Wiser's as well.

A friend who was gifted a bottle of CC 40 gave me a sample to try. I am not very good aT reviewing Whisky but after sitting in the glencairn for 30 minutes I gave it a try. Very much like Highwood Ninety and not much better if even better at all. I can be satisfied with H90 or if I can source an inexpensive bottle of Canadian Rockies 21. Had they bottled this at cask strength then it may have been special. Now to concentrate on getting Lot 40 CS.

@Robert99...I will put aside a bottle of Lot No 40 Cask Strength for you. I cannot pretend to know what you will enjoy. To date I have one bottle (open) of Lot No 40 Cask Strength in my possession. Wiser's 35 willhave some similarities to W18. I currently have a bottle of Wiser's 15 open. It is a viable alternative to W18. W35 has a bit of rye in it. You could add some Lot No 40 to W18 and make a younger version of W35.

Without direct access to the NBC Rare Release my current position is low. There are some NBC bottles being held for me in another province. I'll have a better grasp of the situation in a few weeks...after the LCBO has finished putting their spin on the NBC Rare release...as Ronnie Hawkins would so aptly put it... "Those boys could fuck up a crowbar in fifteen seconds"

@paddockjudge Thanks. LCBO is not the only state service gifted to fuck things up.SAQ is not as talented but all government IT services are in a class of their own, think about the arm registery, the health data system ( in Quebec ) or the infamous Phenix. They are able to make a bow tie out of a crowbar and make us believe it's a straight rule or a level. They are as creative as the marketing services of Diego and Suntory together...

My little guy had me up a few times last night, so I checked my app. CC40yo had 65 bottles available for online order at 3am. 64 at 4am and 0 bottles left by 6am...? Not sure if that is an error or people are piranhas. Also Lot 40CS is now listed at both Queens Quay and Kind/Spadina.

@Astroke they must have reallocated it to another store cause it dropped by 60 before the store even opened. Maybe it is going to the popup store.

@Mancub
Mancub replied

@Astroke @boatracer yes, I also noticed that all the NBC bottles were around 78 this morning at Queens Quay and before opening all had dropped about 60 in inventory. Not sure what they're playing at.

Also, the CC40yo sold out online (64 bottles), then came back this morning with another 24 bottles...and was gone again within an hour. I don't think it was just a computer error either, because I saw the number go down.

@Mancub Regardless, The KGBO roll-out has been ridiculous and I cannot rule out insider preferential treatment.

I am not comforted by the fact that I have most of what I wanted in Calgary. I feel a lot of my fellow enthusiasts are getting shafted.

I guess it's important (as I mentioned) to remind myself that in the end it's just whisky...

This was posted on Don Livermore's Instagram account just half an hour ago.

Anyone in Windsor looking for the Northern Border Collection Rare Releases they are available at the JP Wiser’s Brand Centre. Corner of Riverside Drive and Montrueil Ave. Open Friday from 1:00 - 5:00pm. Very limited quantities.

I hadn't payed much attention to them putting "Rare Releases" in the title before..

@talexander Nice score! Was everything else pretty much cleared out?

HelloLCBO says the NBC "May be available online", but couldn't confirm. Also CC40yo did sell out 88 bottles online this morning in about an hour...

@Mancub They sold their last Lot 40 CS minutes before I showed up, and they also had the Pike Creek 21 (which I'm not going to buy - I've tried it and like it but not as much as the others)

@Mancub
Mancub replied

@talexander I have a feeling this is going to be a similar occurrence until everything runs out. 78 bottles of each is a big release too, smaller cities will see a case or two at a store.

HelloLCBO told me that they added another 50 bottles of CC40yo, she said they would go in minutes. Sure enough, 20 minutes and they were all gone.

Congrats @talexander . Too bad about the lot 40. I'll be happy to share some with you when I get access to it in the future.

I'm hoping to score a GW17 but won't fret if I miss out. The Stagg Jr is a fine consolation prize.

@OdysseusUnbound

At this point, I've all but given up on getting a Lot 40 CS, but the G&W 17 Little Trinity looks mighty interesting too. Although I don't live in the center of the universe (aka The T Dot, aka The Six, aka Toronto), so maybe I'll just write a slightly-deranged, anti-government blog post whilst wearing a tinfoil hat, then send it off to HelloLCBO. Or I'll just hope that my Compass Box Oak Cross arrives soon. Or that the Glenfarclas rep delivers my bottle soon. Or that my Habs stop sucking soon. Ok, that last one is far-fetched.
