The Distillers Editions from Diageo are fairly popular. The appear approximately on a yearly basis and it always concerns a classic from their stables that is double matured. In this case a Talisker that got a second maturation on an Amoroso sherry cask. This Talisker was distilled in 2005 and released in 2015.

That results in a nose that offers chocolate, roasted nuts and a lot of orange liqueur on top of the classic Talisker traits: citrus, seaweeds and pepper. Some polished leather and a good dose of honey. Hint of walnuts. Sweeter than expected and simply marvelous.

The arrival is creamy and spicy with the peat and lots of brackish notes up front, followed by cloves, pepper and a some sniffing tobacco. Then the bittersweet oranges kick in. Honey and caramel. Eminently quaffable.

The finish is wonderfully long on pepper and candied orange peel.

Great Talisker (is there any other?) for a reasonable price.

Is this the first Talisker DE to be younger than the 10 year old "base malt"? 2005-2015 would imply a 9 year old ... ah, the good old days when Diageo Distillers Editions were actually older than the regular malts - like the 13 year old 1986 bottled in 2000!
