- Brand: Tipton Spirits
- ABV: 57.5%
- Batch: 4
W. H. Harrison bourbon claims to be the only true bourbon out of Indianna. Given that it is very likely distilled at MGP this seems like a misleading statement. The Governor's Reserve is a high rye recipe. This review is from the last of my bottle which has been open about 2 months.
Nose: cherry cough syrup, rye grain, and good bourbon notes.
Taste: spicy, wood, and more stock bourbon flavors.
Finish: Smooth for the proof. Good spice and sweetness. The taste lingers nicely and presents some layering of flavors.
Balance: Stong and young bourbon flavors, but nothing is wrong here.
Final Thoughts: This is a strong bourbon with good flavors and is very drinkable. It is also youthful and could use more time in wood to add depth and smoothness.
Labeled Straight Bourbon Whiskey, but with no age statement (?)...so, assumed to be four years old. 57.5% ABV should be very close to barrel strength at 4 years old, analogously to Old Grand-Dad 114. What did it cost?
One more MGPI product. MGPI is a totally competent distillery.
Low age high ABV products seem to me to be the easiest way for distilleries to deliver a lot of flavour in volume quickly and at relatively modest cost.
