Whilst I'm on this subject, Waitrose has both the Aberlour A'bunadh and 16 year old at £24.99. This is also nationwide. Enjoy.

I hav just baited an idiot on ebay who's charging 40 euros for delivery by asking what else I get. I reckon his first born is the bear minimum - what do you reckon?

I have 99 reviews online at this moment. Time for something special for my 100th review, don't you agree? I'll be opening up my Port Ellen 1979 7th Release for this occasion. Stay tuned :-)

My friend Niek just came back from Japan, where he visited the Suntory Distillery. While the blog is in Dutch, you may not understand the words, but the photos alone make it worth while to check it out at blog.whivie.be. Enjoy and... Kampai!

Just got home from the Outer Hebrides where there was the most magnificent sunset two nights ago. Grabbed this photograph of a glass of SMWS 35.31, the aptly named – A kaleidoscope of aromas. picturepost.aminus3.com/image/…

@Silas, ( I could't find your comment-to-a-review, where you asked me which I liked best: Tal or Laga) the answer re: Talisker 10 vs Lagavulin 16 is not easy. I'm not sure these are even in the same league, as the Laga is 6 years older ... actually closer to the Tal 18 in age. I tried several Islays last night, and then reviewed my notes of the last couple of months ... they are not all consistent ... and there are differences in each session. Here are my thoughts after distilling my notes:

Laga 16: Nicely crafted and well-balanced, very tasty, and I like that it is sweeter than Tal 10. But I don't like the commanding and persistent sootiness, like fireplace or stale cigarettes. Tal 10: Liveler, usually drier, fruity, salty, tangy, assertive and warm. Nice smokiness, and in the backround. Bold, exciting and fun ... I would usually prefer this over Laga 16. Tal 18: A class act whisky, elegant, refined, colorful, mannerly, complex, flavorful, well-balanced. Good smoke in the backround. Though refined, this is still exciting and satisfying ... really good ... would prefer over most anything else. Then there are Caol Ila and Laphroaig ... enough for now ... hope that helps.

@AboutChoice Thanks for the comparison on Talisker and Lagavulin. I suppose I'll have to get a Talisker 18 and make the choice between the 3. I agree perfectly with your characterization of both the Tal and Lag. Thanks!

I'm going to pick up a new bottle tomorrow, but can't decide between The Auchentoshan 12 Yr. and The Dalmore 12 Yr. Any suggestions?? I'm a newbie to the single malt world, but am really enjoying it so far. My favourite dram thus far has been The Balvenie Doublewood.

I recently stumbled onto this webpage about starting out with scotch, and though dubious, it may at least spark new ideas, but at best, it was just a fun read. :-) ( ... wasn't exactly sure where to post this ... ) www.charm.net/~kmarsh/scotch.html

Older A'bunadhs: Just returned from a trip where I acquired an A'bunadh 23, and then later discovered an A'bunadh 13, but which they were not able to sell on Sunday. I am still disappointed about the 13, and now it is a 2 hour drive away. Does anyone feel I should go after this one, or just let it go ... knowing that there will always be other discoveries to be had ?

Hey, folks, I'm leaving for Portugal on family holiday (well-deserved, mind you!). I cannot seem to find any information on Portuguese whisky. Does that mean they don't have any (if not, I'll have to drive into Spain to get me some DYC, eh)? Thanks for your feedback.

Nikka From The Barrel - Any reason why this one isn't listed. An absolutely superb blend which really should be tried by anyone with a passing interest in Japanese whisky.

@Piero How often do they update their bottle list. I think I might have to suggest a few more Japanese whiskeys as the current catalogue is missing a lot of the more affordable ones. Cheers, Dan
