I was on the pier looking out across the lake. Went there for lunch yesterday. I was looking through my liquor cabinet and I actually have 14 bottles. Lucky me, I have more than I thought. tumbler_glass

@TA462 , if you have dusty old bottles of Jack Daniels and Canadian Club, I bet some folks on here would love to see you taste a couple 2017 bottles of the same stuff, side by side. (I always dig those reviews.)

@Victor I used to go up to T-Bay every Jan- February for 3-5 weeks in the late 80's to work on the Ships that laid up in Port Arthur for the winter. We had to drive up and drive back when the work was done, like -40 C every day.

@TA462 Welcome to a fellow southern Ontarian. I started my whisky journey in earnest 6 years ago and before that I literally couldn't tell the difference between a Canadian Club and Macallan 25. When I think of the hours I've spent learning to become as opinionated as I am now, I wonder where has all the time gone...

@Astroke, aahh, -40 degrees, the magical temperature at which Celsius meets Fahrenheit. Something to which to look forward! I think that -36 C/-30 F is about the lowest I have experienced.

@TA462 Ah, yes, having lunch on the pier is a very popular activity. And why not? The view is great. The current water level makes things all the more interesting.

I saw in your cabinet you're now up to 15 bottles. Careful so you don't over-buy, it's an easy thing to do. relaxed Just ask @Nozinan, I believe he's mentioned on more than one occasion having more whisky than he'll ever consume. Then again, we can't take it with us, be that money or whisky, so why not enjoy the hobby while we can? +1

@MadSingleMalt

Hi all. I'm going to start using a new handle around here, @MadSingleMalt. That new account will connect to the Facebook page and whatnot for my whisky club.

But don't worry, I'll still be the same old tiresome me.

Edit: This was supposed to be posted under my old handle, @Ol_Jas. Whoops! Here, just to prove that it's me: Don't you hate fake color in whisky? :)

...and for what it's worth, I intend to switch my ID on all the various whisky sites I frequent. Connosr has always felt like my "home" site in the online whisky world, though, so it's only here that I'm going to bother explaining myself.

@Ol' Jas, signing off. @MadSingleMalt at your service.

@jeanluc I'm relatively new connosr of whiskey. As an American, I'm use to drinking bourbon. Now I'm living in Thailand and am exploring scotch. Looking forward to tasting and learning about the many options available.

@tremer, welcome! There are thousands upon thousands of all sorts and styles of whisky out there. Much of what you will be able to experience depends upon your local availability. Can you get Amrut and Kavalan there where you are? Nice Asian malts....

Visited Sweden in December 2016 and bought a bottle from Box Distillery. Was pleasantly surprised. Excellent, excellent, excellent! Surpassed a lot of single malts from Scotland (and I am loyal to death to that country, though I am a seventh generation South African) as well as better than the French whiskies I've tasted thus far.

Hi Everyone... I was surprised the other day when I ran across this site, as I thought I had found every whisky site there was to find by now! So, when I really got into whisky a year or so ago I tried to be a Scotch snob, but then I discovered Bourbon... I think it was Knob Creek that made me say, "Wow, Bourbon is good." Then, a friend had me try Redbreast 15, and the Irish joined the party... then, after reading some reviews, I bought some Hibiki Harmony and Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky... and the Japanese were aboard. So, much for being a Scotch snob. I just like interesting whisky. I am a Scotch Malt Whisky Society member and have recently returned from a trip to Scotland and Islay... was the time of my life. I don't have a favorite... although I gravitate towards the Islay whiskies; if I am forced to pick a favorite distiller, I would say Laphroaig. Thanks for letting me be a part. Bill

@dcbill Welcome Bill. You seem to have great taste. Full disclosure: I'm a bit of a Laphroaigophile (yes, I'm pretty sure I invented that word).

Hello Everyone, I happened onto the site by accident as I was checking out some of the whiskies I have, quite a lots of it is from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, where I have been a member almost from the beginning - It's always been a bit of a detection process to decipher the bottle numbering system adopted by the SMWS - So connosr.com came up on one of my searches - decided to join so hear I am - it's probably fair to say that I'm interested in most forms of alcoholic drinks, although if I run a bottle count of my collection, wine wins with whisky in a clear second place. In both cases, the problem I have is input (buying) exceeds the output (consumption), thus inventory seems to grow - the positive is I'm spoilt for choice! From a knowledge point of view, I tend to see myself as a beginner as the more I learn, the more I realise there is to learn, its a great journey. What attracted me to the SMWS in the first place was the opportunity to acquire an enjoy cask strength unfiltered single barrel bottlings, that syill holds true today, I have a number of other cask strength single case bottles, although the SMWS bottlings predominate I look forward to contributing to the site and learning from it - Enjoy

@Woodstock69 Welcome sir, I am also relatively new to this site... but what caught my eye was your reference to SMWS; I too am a member, although only for about a year at this point. I have about 17 SMWS bottles on the shelf. Tasting unfiltered, single cask strength whisky has a tendency to spoil a person for sure.

@Woodstock69 Welcome to the site. You'll find quite a number of us that have a problem where "supply" exceeds "demand".

I envy your access to the SMWS. If it were easier access here Id be in whisky heaven.

Hello Whisky lovers. I'm very new to tasting whisky. I've become interested after visiting The Whisky Experience in Edinburg this year. I already tried to add the bottles I have to my cabinet. Because not all of them have an image, I'm not fully sure I've selected the correct ones.

@MadSingleMalt Thx, My favourites till now ... Abelour, Caol Ila and Lavagulin

@MadSingleMalt

@Geocoder , nice.

Which exact whiskies from those distilleries did you have? (Was the Caol Ila the usual 12, and the Lagavulin the usual 16?)

And two peaters on your favorites list already! Are those exceptional for you—have you had any peated whisky so far that you didn't like? (I'm just always curious how peat feels when it's new!)

Geocoder replied

@MadSingleMalt Yes indeed the Caol Ila 12 years and Lavagulin 16 years.
