Just got back from a trip to Paducah KY with an Old Pulteney 17, a Glenfiddich 12 tasting gift set, and 2 bottles of the Four Roses Small Batch Limited 2012. Cannot wait to try this one. That is probably my next bottle to crack open.

I've just opened a 20 y.o. Mortlach matured in sherry cask by Cadenhead's, really surprising. By the end of the week I should buy a Lochside old bottling, still from CadenHead's, 20 or 22 y.o.

I just bought a bottle of Glen Grant 10 YO. I wanted to see what Mr. Murray was raving about in his latest Bible. The price was right at $ 35. I'll open it soon.

@Victor: I enjoyed the last one we had (a gift) and my local liquor barn has it on special for Au.$49.00 but there are plenty of Whiskies for a little more that give a lot more! None of the Whiskies at 40% abv. seem to have the texture I'm looking for...but, maybe it's just me! There is a lovely Ardmore 'Traditional' in a lot of outlets and it does tick all the boxes; plenty of texture, 46% abv., peat, glorious nose and flavor with an exciting, lingering finish: For $16.00 more, I'll take the Ardmore as an every day 'drop', any day.

Cheers.

@A'bunadhman, yes, I usually have to shift out of my default 'Big Flavours' mindset to get the maximum enjoyment from a 40% ABV whisky. There are some gems at 40% though. Have you ever sampled Bushmills 21 yo Malt? A treasure.

@Victor: There are many fine Whiskies at 40% abv. I just think they are better at the old (pre-war) abv. of 80 Proof (imperial) or 45.72% or even better at 100 Proof (imperial) or 57.15% abv. I had wondered at Taliskers' use of 45.8% abv. and was told at the distillery that it was the old 80 Proof.

Slainte!

The Laddie Ten. Dramlette and I finally got a sample of The Laddie Ten last night and both of us fell in love wth it at first sip. @two-bit cowboy, it really is as good as what you and many others have been saying. I don't think that I have yet seen a single negative comment about this whisky. That's a bit unusual to have no dissenters whatsoever, and speaks volumes to its quality. Hope it stays this good with the new distillery ownership. Wonderful barley-malt flavours, made with a bit of the peated water. This will be a fixture in our cabinet now.

@FMichael Great pickup. Glenlivet Nadurra is a favorite of mine. In my opinion the Nadurra is by far the best in the Glenlivet range. Enjoy!

This is the season for gift sets, and in the last week, I've picked up three whiskey related sets for Bourbon loving friends, and two Scotch related packages for my home bar, all with some nice free swag!

I got a Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 year old gift box, with set of four leather Striding Man coasters and a matching base to store them when not in use.

I also picked up gift sets of Jim Beam Double Black, Maker's Mark, and Jack Daniels #7, each with a pair of logo tumblers.

Lastly, tonight I picked up a gift set of Arran 10 year old, with a pair of etched nosing glasses. The glasses are about the same size and shape of a Glencairn glass, but without the base. They are very similar to larger glasses of the same design that I got last year, with a gift set of Glenlivet 12 year old.

I picked up a bottle of Old Malt Cask Craganmore 21 last night. At $99.99 USD it was too cheap not to. I've been wanting to get a bottle of Cragganmore and this fit the bill nicely. My girlfriend bought a bottle of Bully Boy's new American Whiskey.
