@paddockjudge Thanks for sharing. I think I'm going to pickup the 15 and the Nadurra. They both sound good to me. Although you commented that the 21 seems to be the best in the range I might have to pass on that one.

I am eyeing off Knockando 12 yr (1997) - I am yet to try this, I am expecting something gentle.

My next to open will be an Ardbeg 10 yr.

Heart of Gold from Forty Creek. This limited release expression surprises me every time I taste it. The complexity is enormous and the balance is magical. I believe a six-pack is in order.

Can't get a six pack in Toronto. Looks like Sudbury has extra stock. It is a fine dram. I think I have a spare bottle kicking around somewhere. That may have to do. Unless I buy a new spare cabinet for my spares...

Call me crazy, call me stupid. I don't care. Just turned down the chance to buy the Octomore 6.1

Instead for almost the same money I bought a Laphroaig Cask Strenght Batch 3 and a Longmorn 17y from The Ultimate Selection by van Wees. This one gets raving reviews and sisters casks sold out quickly.

I tasted the Octomore 4.2 earlier and thought it was awesome, but when I tasted the 6.1 in the shop before buying it, I was disappointed. I love Laphroaig for the medicinal notes, so I made the decision to buy this over the Octomore 6.1 or the Lagavulin 12y 2013 edition.

Was looking for a fat Sherry bomb. This Longmorn is Cask Strenght, NFC and not colored. It spend all 17 years in a Sherry butt. Tasted this one today and liked it a lot. The color is dark brown, and it's a very thick Whisky.

I'll pass on the Octomore this time, let's see what 7.x brings.

@wtrstrnghlt Bravo! You called an audible at the line of scrimmage and scored two majors! You are going home with two excellent choices.

@paddockjudge thanks, was a bit disappointed because I went there 'on a mission'. But when I went back home I felt pretty good about my choice.

Or was that because of the mini tasting of the GlenDronach CS, 21 Parliament, Longmorn CS and the Octomore I had at noon :)

Just saw Ralfy's review of the new Balvenie 12 year old single cask. So impressed was he that I was convinced to pick up a bottle. Pretty pricy in Ontario. Hope it's worth it. Might give it to my uncle as a gift, that way I can justify the price AND taste it.

@Nozinan The Balvenie 12 yr Single Barrel is very good (even better if you like a straight forward vanilla/honey scotch whisky)...And yes it's pricey.

@HeartlessNinny

@wtrstrnghlt I quite liked the 6.1 myself, but there's no doubt the 4.2 was the better whisky.

I gotta say, though, that I thought the 6.1 had surprising complexity for such a peaty monster. But I certainly don't think you made a bad choice or anything. So what am I saying, exactly... Ah, who knows. ;)

I'm hoping the next 24 hours will see me come into possession of a bottle of Knob Creek 9 year old single barrel reserve.

I also hope that I'll be opening this bottle in the near future.

When I lose 40 pounds I'm going to open my Glenfarclas 40. Currently, I weigh 215 (pounds) and I'm six feet tall. I would like to weigh 175. The 40 year is my incentive

@rigmorole, simple. Order a whisky from thewhiskyexchange.com which costs 40 pounds, and you can open your Glenfarclas 40 tomorrow. You will have lost the 40 pounds.

I was recently unsatisfied with my weight loss (need to fit into a suit in 3 weeks) and as an incentive I said no Whisky until I hit 185. Problem was, everything was going fine and a day before I made it I slipped on the ice and broke a rib. So for the last 9 days I suffered, with lots of anti-inflammatories so no alcohol going on three weeks until today...

Just bought the last bottle of Mortlach 16y F&F available in Holland. The last one available that I could find that is. For a reasonable €80,-

I'll wait a while before opening this though.

At Christmas, I noted that my cabinet was waaay too light on sherry influenced whiskies. To rectify that slightly, I traded in (and made a slight 'profit' on the exchange) an unopened Compass Box Oak Cross in order to get the Auchentoshan Three Wood. This was one of my original 'wish list' whiskies when I started drinking over three years ago.

Really looking forward to trying it, though it likely won't be until the fall as I am on a mission to finish off some bottle ends in the next several months.

My next targets for bottles are Glenfiddich 15 Solera (for the greater sherry influence over the 15 DE), Glenfarclas 15, and Aberlour A'bunadh (though waiting for these two to be restocked in Ontario). Glendronach 15 and Benriach 12 Sherry are also now on the wishlist, though are not available in Ontario.

Next purchase: might pick up the Wild Turkey Rye (anyone have any thoughts on it?) Next one to open: am going to be doing a series of Irish whiskey reviews (in time for St. Patrick's Day) so I have a few interesting bottles I have yet to open.

@Pudge72: Some excellent choices but I must say that the last time I had G/Fi's Solera and DE's bottles alongside each other, it was no contest! The solera was not in the same league as the DE. Both were 1lt. ex. Auckland Duty Free and the DE. was the old label; it had, probably, spent all it's life gathering dust in what is certainly the World's worst outlet but what a fantastic 'drop' the DE. was! By comparison the Solera was light weight, lack-lustre and just plain ordinary.

Cheers.

Thanks to @asmazda for leading me to the online retailer (in another thread). I ordered (and have heard from my friend it was delivered) four bottles of Booker's and a bottle of Ardbeg corry. Even with shipping, at $45 (+$5 shipping per bottle) I saved $20 off the per bottle cost at the LCBO - which has been out of stock for some time. And about 100 off the Corry. They even charged only $25 for shipping though the online quote was over 30. And no tax!

By the way, they do ship to Buffalo for those Canadians near the border...

On the same day, my Bladnoch shipment appears to have arrived from whiskyexchange. My friend has yet to open it but it should contain 3 eleven and 3 twelve year olds unpeated and matured in sherry casks and bottled at 55%, as well as 2 miniatures of the lightly peated 9 year old.

Now it will take him 10 visits to bring it all over, and another 2 to bring the ones still waiting, but especially with the Bladnoch, if there are to be no more Armstrong quality bottlings, it will be worth it.

I think that pretty much takes care of my Whisky purchases for the year...
