@Pandemonium Cowabunga, Ardbeg is ridin that wave hard together with Ballantines "Brazil". All this while Scotland is not even in the tournament :s I'm gonna be chasing a Kilchoman Loch Gorm #2 which is set to be out the 8th of april, I need it...

well they needed a theme for their Ardbeg day. I loved the first 2013 Loch Gorm. But what I really want to find these next months, is a bottle that is as old as I am, so something that was distilled in 1990 (preferably January 1990). I intend to keep it until I'm 60 or so. I'm browsing the local shops to find something that's worth it price/quality-wise

@Pandemonium Might I suggest the Ardbeg Beist? A1990 distillate, and bottles are still about. I've lucked into several. It is especially appropriate considering your avatar!

I've been looking for the beast (yes that would be fitting!) for some time now, they don't come cheap these days.

@Pandemonium Be quick before you wake up one day and realise that 33 year old whiskies are really expensive :(

haha, true, no saw a few nice bladnochs and littlemills from 1990, that come at a reasonable price, I guess a littlemill would be something extra special. But my preference goes out to something peaty from Islay

@Pandemonium
If ever I buy an expensive bottle to drink, or invest I always seem to sweat on it in the short term. Then I buy it and panic further thinking 'what have I done!?!'.
But then I think about all the hundreds and thousands I'm forced to spend on things like car/house insurance and repair - for which I get nothing in return really. In comparison, the occasional expensive bottle of whisky is actually not very much, yet obviously far more enjoyable.
Having said that I bought my current bottle of The Beast 3 years ago for £60. Now worth £200. But I still plan to drink it one day - the best whisky ever IMO. I have also just reviewed my first, (and probably last) Littlemill expression. It was one of those where I thought it was a last-chance saloon to get a sample of dwindling stocks at a reasonable price.
What I would really like is to find an Islay distilled in 1976 (year of my birth), although I think I might wait until 2016 and see if any of the distilleries release a 40YO then - it would be my whisky dream come true!!!

@Nemisis, there are probably still a few out there. This is an online shop that I use if I want something out of the ordinary, they still got quite a few bottles from 1976: whiskyhuis.be/catalog/…

Elmer T Lee B13 327, not equal to 329; however, I will soldier on knowing that I have more 329 in my Strategic Whiskey Stockpile

First tasted it at a place you'd last expect to find a good Scotch, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Light, floral in a faintly Jasmine-like way, honey, vanilla, cantaloupe, so delicately balanced with no bite. I can imagine sipping this one through summer. Taking your time matters this one.
Definitely getting a bottle to provide contrast to my peatier malts.

Rock Hill Farms 100 proof $90. This bourbon was purchased at a premium; yes, of coursed, it was purchased in Ontario . This is great bourbon! However, I think I'll save a few dollars and purchase the Elmer T Lee Single Barrel expression 90 proof $55 or perhaps Blanton's Original 93 proof $60. These (along with Old Charter 10 YO 80 proof $34 ) are all pretty much the same juice....all very good.

Just put in a n order for 2 bottles of Springbank Claret wood that I found online in a store in Calgary. I really like this whisky. I also found the calvados finish and after seeing some of the reviews here I decided to pick one up to try. Thankfully I have a brother in law who is happy to pick them up for me.
It's almost sad to leave some behind, because, as the distillery rep confirmed for me, it was a onetime bottling, possibly never to be seen again. But This will make 6 bottles (4 spring bank 2 Amrut) I need to bring home from Calgary. And it continues to accumulate faster than I can drink it.

Having a bunch of enthusiasts over this Sunday, day after my 45th birthday. The main event will be opening my bottle of A'Bunadh batch 45 (already have the batches for the next 2 birthdays in waiting).
I'm looking to start with something unsherried, so we may crack an Amrut Cask Strength (this one is batch 15 - I'm not worth opening my batch 1 for), and a couple of others to consider opening include Springbank Claretwood, and something peaty like the Ardmore Traditional Cask.

@Nozinan Ardmore is awesome in a way that its peated style is so different from the Islays. I would love to try the 25 or the 30yo expression some day, but they come at a fairly high price. It might also be interesting to put the Ardlair and Ardmore side by side and compare them

Got a birthday gift of JD Single Barrel. It was a bottling specifically for Hy-vee Grocery. It will be interesting to see what they deemed as good.

My first Kilchoman Loch Gorm is gonna be opened this week, I'm quite curious what a Kilchoman will be like on sherry cask. The batch is a little bigger than last year with 17000 bottles but If you want it too, be quick nevertheless

A concert in Niagara Falls, NY on Monday finally gave me the opportunity to pick up a bottle of Old Grand Dad 114. Thanks to @Victor and @dbk for first introducing me to this heckuva bottle!! Tentacles of wood for all! :)
Completely unrelated to whisky, the concert I went to included hard rock/heavy metal acts (Digital Summer, Trivium, and Volbeat). Anybody looking for a twist on the genre should definitely check out Volbeat. The lead singer is a huge Johnnie Cash and Elvis fan and brings the country/western element into the hard rock that they perform. Simply an awesome concert, enjoyed with good friends. m/-.-m/

Just picked up a Springbank West Highland Malt (local barley precursor ) 1970-91cask 3341 bourbon cask. The next bottle I will open is most likely a Macallan 1988 -2006 Signatory cask strength on my upcoming vacation next week.

my sister was popping through duty free and gave me a bell, "asking would you like x y or z". I said yes z sounds good. A nice little bourbon sampler from jim beam, 5cl each of jim beam small batch, booker's small batch, baker's aged 7 years and basil hayden 8 year old. Looking foward to it all, havent had much bourbon so this will be interesting

Came across a Balblair 1990/2011 Blackadder Raw Cask and bought it, can't seem to find any reviews or tasting notes online. I've been lookiing for a 1990 (I'm a 1990 vintage myself) bottle for some time, I'm probably going to hold on to this one for quite some time
