Jefferson's Reserve. Thanks to Nozinan for stepping up and saving me an eight hour round trip to the closest store with inventory of Jefferson's Reserve Very Old Very Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

What @paddockjudge neglected to point out is that he offered to trade the Jefferson's for some of his stash of now all but unobtainable Forty Creek Heart of Gold. Granted, I would have picked them up for him anyway, but I know what a fan he is of the FC Special releases so this is an appreciated and generous favour.

Dancing alittle jig right now as two family members just returned from Ireland, with three bottles of the fruit of Ireland for me. Now have to decide what to sample first between bottles of Yellow Spot, Palace Bar 8yo, and the newer Palace Bar Fourth Estate. The vintage bottle of Palace Bar whiskey was a fluke as a Dublin B&B owner just happened to have purchased it nearly 10 years ago for a guest, who failed to take it home with them at that time. My brother's inquiry to the B&B hostess about where to purchase a bottle of Palace Bar whiskey was rewarded with this treasured bottle. Talk about the luck of the irish.

so how was it?

@HeartlessNinny

I just grabbed a couple of more everyday whiskies; I found a Laddie 10 (which is growing increasingly rare in these parts) and a BenRiach 12 year sherry cask (also a lovely and, I think, underrated dram).

I might open my Wisers Red Letter 2013 next though. I'm quite curious about that one.

Writer's tears. Never tried it, but it seemed like the best choice as a birthday present for a friend who prefers Irish to Scotch, and who just finished running in our election. He did well. We increased our share of the vote. I told him these are the only tears that should be shed after a good, noble fight.

A few bottles of Ardbeg Ardbog, one year after the first release with the price descending to a more reasonable level...in Australia at least.

Serendipity!

I was travelling around the city on call today. On my way to see a patient I saw an LCBO I haven't been to before.

On the way back my wife phoned to tell me she and the kids were going to a friends' and ordering Korean food. I figured I might as well stop in and see if they have Soju and bring it as a "gift". Much to my surprise, I saw that not only was this particular LCBO stocked with 3 brands of Soju (apparently Jinro Chamisul is the best selling spirit in the world - yes more than JW. Red!) they also has something I'd never seen before in Canada but had learned about, Makgeolli, a Korean rice wine. So I bought 2 bottles, one for them and one for me to try. They sell it in plastic "pop" bottles and it has a sort of white sediment.

Anyway, that's not why I am posting... I obviously gravitated to what is a pretty good Scotch selection, and surprise! Several bottles of the Laddie 10. Couldn't find batch info anywhere, funny enough. Now I've only tried it once, at my brother in law's, when he opened his bottle (mine remains sealed) about 2 years ago. But I liked it. Given all the discussion about how hard it is to find, and that even the LCBO inventory is starting to thin, and that I'd seen a lot of patients today, I figured it would be best to unburden the store of one of their bottles. albeit nearly 10 dollars more than they originally sold it at.

Lots left in some stores around Toronto, if anyone is interested. I'm neutral about it, but if anyone lives somewhere where it is sold out and is planning to visit Toronto in the next year, let me know and I'll hold one for you.

Nozinan - out of curiousity, which LCBO were you in? I work downtown so Summerhill and Flagship are key stops on the way home but also appreciate the premium store in South Oakville (forgive me, don't know the intersection) and Bayview Village are always full of suprises.

What? And give up my "stash"?

I think it's I'm a plaza called York Mills Gardens. At York Mills and Leslie. North East corner. The person at the cash was extremely helpful...

Not sure exactly where you are downtown, but if you're looking for the Laddie 10 there are a lot of stores with plenty, including the flaghip, Dundas and Spadina, etc...

What's less available is my next likely purchase...Private Preserve....I'm on my last bottle of it.
