Just bought and opened a Hideki 12 year old. Unbelievable whisky, lots of flavors and oh so smooth. Definitely worth all of the high scores.

@paddockjudge Glad you found some Old Charter 10y. I haven't open mine yet. Let me know how it is?

@Pudge72 I am almost done with my bottle of Benriach HF and my only regret is that I didn't buy 3 bottles of it. Really a good grab with a petroleum peat and all the usual PX f'lavors just wonderfully close to be heavy. Lucky you!
For myself I just opened a Glengoyne 10. I was really surprise by it. And I can get out of my mind that it is the best part of the Té Bheag blend. Those anybody knows if Glengoyne is part of Ce Vek?

Picking up a bottle of Highwood Ninety 20 year old later today. For $50 here in Vancouver am hoping I can't go wrong with this one.

@Benancio, the Old Charter 10 YO is a cracker! I tried this newly acquired bottle H2H with a bottle opened more than a year ago; the older bottle being nearly empty. The newly opened bottle seemed to be more vibrant...whisps of honey and toffee in the glass continue onto the pallet with a pleasant sweetness. Subtle oak for having spent ten years in a barrel. Pepper in waves from entry through finish. There is a good amount of heat mid-palate and into the exit - it works well with the sweetness and sets up the finish where the oak makes its presence known - lingering pithiness with echoes of honey in a long and dry finish.
To make sure I wasn't "selling" this bottle to myself, I had a go H2H with Jefferson's Reserve (Batch 197)...the Old Charter 10 is bargain priced; however, it has a premium taste.
I'm putting a bottle of Old Charter in the bunker for much, much later.

@RoganFox
I picked up 2 at the LCBO. Won't get around to opening them for a LONG time, but by the time I'm ready they will be long gone...

@RoganFox, I hope you picked up two bottles. 100% corn and absolutely delicious. I was blessed to be gifted with a bottle delivered by an angel last year when it was released... and then prayed for another...my prayers were answered a short time later.
This 20 YO at 45% abv is more complex than the Century 21 (40% abv) and, in my opinion, a step up from the 2012 Release 25 YO Stampede 100th Anniversary Edition (40% abv). These are all very nice whiskies from Highwood Distillers (don't forget about Lot 15/25) with the Ninety being my favourite.

@paddockjudge That's great to hear. What is H2H? I'll have to decant one of my 1.75ltr bottles. I need to find an empty OC 10y 750ml bottle to decant into. I found this on my bottle 84 06 266 1646.

@Benancio, H2H is an abbreviation for 'head to head' I have an empty OC 10 bottle. The markings on my bottles are 03 11 348 17:47 and 03 11 349...

@paddockjudge Its hard to read, but the code might be 04 06 266 1646, that would make more since but it sure looks like '84'.

A bit back and forth today, before I ended up with a Laphroaig Quarter Cask.

@paddockjudge Only picked up one but with more being released here in BC i should be able to get another. At $50 and tasting the way it does I would probably be foolish not to.

@Robert99...Glengoyne 10, to my mind is Scotch at its most pure/basic form in a very good way. Everyone should try it some time. That being said, I don't know if it is part of Te Bheag. The only certainty is that Te Bheag includes Talisker.

Tomatin 15y Tempranillo Cask 52% ABV. Arrived today and it is one finest scotches I've ever tasted. Found three bottles and took a chance and bought them. @Victor thanks for the recommendation, you didn't steer me wrong. I'll drink one and put the other two into the collection.
Picked up a Springbank 12 Cask strength 50.3% ABV , I love this stuff too.

Colonel E H Taylor Barrel Proof 67.7% ABV uncut unfiltered. I found 5 of these on the shelf today, I left 3 behind. I was hard not to take them all . They were $79.99, one of the finest bourbons I have had.
I don't know if 67.7 %ABV is this years batch or last years, does anyone know?
11 years ago 0
@Benancio, this year's is 64.5% abv. I imagine that these are last year's release.

@Victor That's what I was thinking too, last years. This liquor store is one I hadn't been to in a long time. I was surprised to see them. The salesman said he had them for a long time.

Well, I have 3 unopened bottles sitting here, the oldest is a 16yr old Mortlach which I'm really looking forward to. The last 2 bottles I have picked up are a 16yr Arran and a cask strength single sherry cask Kilchoman...

@Victor The Colonel E H Taylor Barrel Proof 67.7% ABV I have this code B1321810:42M on the bottles.

Elijah Craig 12yo. Small Batch: This one with a bottle code, # L2673. I'm pretty sure I haven't seen a code on E.C. before - I've saved the last 3 bottles as handsome decanters, they certainly are that but no code.
I do like the bottle codes and if this is as good as the last E.C. 47% Small Batch I will be easily able to pick up spares. I have 100ml. saved from last year so, I'll do a side by side almost immediately; looking at the sample alongside the new bottle, I would say that the sample is not as red nor as dark and is less bright than the new bottle, and that might change in the glass, too. I guess Small Batch should vary some, though at first glance, this looks quite different.
Cheers.

@Victor -- We're in the same neck of the woods. Do you know which store had that Laddie 10 on sale? Quite the deal! Probably have run out, but wanted to ask just in case not. Thanks!
11 years ago 0
@ionnsaiche, the stores at which I saw the Laddie Ten on deep discount have run out of it. There may possibly be some other stores in Montgomery County which still have some on the shelves, but I don't know which ones they may be, and they are no longer in the online inventory at all. The only way you could look into it is to either visit the stores yourself or call each of them. Doesn't look good at this point for finding any more of it here. Ya gotta move fast when the opportunity presents itself.

There's a spirit sale at the SAQ this weekend: 15% when you buy 2 bottles or more. I guess I'm picking up the Lot 40 and... whatever else I can find at the local store. Probably the Chic Choc, a local spiced rum.

Ok....I caved....picked up the Glenfarclas 105, and an a'Bunadh batch 49. George Grant from Glenfarclas emailed me and said the next release will be NAS, so this is the last chance to get a 10 year old.

Picked up another bottle of the Arran 10 yr.
Had a wee dram a while ago...It's nice, but it sorta confirms my earlier beliefs; the 14 yr Arran is alot better, and worth the additional $15.
