@Nozinan ,too bad we're half a world apart! How come you wish to get rid of it?

@Alexsweden Compared to the A'Bunadh I found it a little thin at 43%. Also, it seemed to go flat after a few months even with gas. So I'd rather trade it or give it away. I know the LCBO has raised the price for it by over 30% since 2011, and I'm sure there's someone out there who would be happy to have it at a trade based on the original price.... or it will make a great gift, or I'll open it and see if my palate has changed.

@Nozinan I understand. Thank you for your input, I will certainly consider it. It does seem to get high marks in general but the palate ofcourse is individual.

Elijah Craig Barrel proof 6th release 70.1%. My friend came from Seattle to swear his oath of citizenship and he picks one up for me. There were at least 3 in the store. I would have thought now that they are on the 9th release that this would not be available. I hear that people fall off themselves to get it...and now for $65 US (about $300 after the exchange rate). Thankfully this time I had USD and he agreed to accept money, unlike the other 8th release he gave me a couple months back.

Bought a few bottles of the Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon 2015. This year's is a bit older than the 2014, and as many of you connosr's know, it's the last release made under Jim Rutledge's direction. Here's to hoping he went out with a bang! Early reviews are promising.

Jura Prophecy and Bowmore 15 Darkest. I never expected to ever be buying bottles from these two distilleries as they are not among my favourites but when I saw them in a local supermarket marked at half price reduced to clear I thought I'd give them a try. The Connosr community gives them both decent scores.

There is a reason they discount bottles.... I very much disliked the Bowmore Darkest.

@paddockjudge, They came out to ~$80/bottle.

@Nozinan I've just read your Bowmore review. Sounds like you had a very bad batch which this expression is known for. Let's hope mine's one of the more stellar releases. The Prophecy sounds like it's a decent dram. Most give it a reasonable score and it's also bottled at 46%abv. I'm not expecting anything special from the Jura distillery but this one should be OK , Perhaps I should have bought 2 Talisker 10's for the same money but I do like to try different drams..

@maltmate302, I find Jura Prophecy to have one of the most beautiful aromas of the hundreds of whiskies I have sampled. That which follows afterwards does not exactly fulfill the prophecy.

I hope your Darkest experience is brighter than mine. I did try a travel retail Bowmore once that was ok (it was at a friend's and I don't remember the details), but the only awesome Bowmore I've had was the 15 yr Laimrig. Wonder have it compared to the "Black" which is twice as old...

As for Talisker, The last few times I had the 10 I was more than impressed. I have a bottle of 57 north I'm looking to open, and if I do I may not want to buy the 10 (it's a lower ABV), but the other option is to get a 10 at a Duty Free or in the US where it will be half the price of the LCBO, because it's a really fine dram.

A bottle of the Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength (9th Release) and a couple of bottles of the Longrow Red 12 Year Old Fresh (NZ) Pinot Noir Casks.

Quite excited with the Longrow Red, rumoured to be the last in the series. Been wanting this to complete the entire series in the collection.

A Kilkerran single cask 9 years old. It's been matured in a calvados barrel and is bottled at 57.30% abv. I think this the first single cask Glengyle have ever put on general release so I'm thrilled to have it. It's only been on the Master of Malt website a couple of hours so if anyone wants any they better be quick.

Urged on by the good sir @Nozinan (among others) I just got home with the Amrut peated CS. I'm really looking forward to trying this unusual malt! Also I got the Aberlour 18 year old. I really like the a'bunadh and recently fell in love with glendronach 21 so i figured this was a no-brainer. Sherry and age at a good price.

Thinking of Laphroiag quarter cask, Aberlour 12 and a premium Chase English potato vodka something for the uneducated over the Xmas and new year. Only £71 for all 3 online with a £30 off voucher.

Or the vodka with a Laphroiag 10 and a bunnahabain 12 is £74, struggling to make up my mind. Want to have a regular Islay as do not have one at minute hear good things about the Bunnahabain being milder on the smoke with a sherry influence but I know I like the Aberlour style.

Any help appreciated.

I think you will enjoy the Amrut peated CS. If it weren't so close to midnight I would succumb to the sudden urge to pour myself a dram of it. And I'm on call tomorrow so...Looks like the moment will be lost...

@paddockjudge Poured myself a generous drop of Danfield's 21 while watching the WS as well. It was like nosing a shattered bat - which there were a few of last night. Maple, oak and cedar. Too bad I'm down to last quarter bottle.

@AdamH, a generous pour indeed, because there is no such thing as 'a wee drop' when it comes to Danfield's 21.

Matt Harvey kept shaking-off the call as I began to pour.

One finger? No.

Two fingers? No.

Three fingers? What the hell! That emptied the open bottle and it was only the second inning.

Another was summoned from the whisky bullpen shortly thereafter.

I didn't know he would last into the ninth.

The newly opened bottle has some room to breathe.

Adam, perhaps we can do a tasting in the new year, "Whiskies That Have Seen More Wood Than Pinocchio's Girlfriend". Hmmm, that would be an interesting thread.
