Wiser’s 23 is my go-to whisky. I’m counting on Don Livermore and the crew at Hiram Walker to whip up another batch to celebrate Don’s 25th Anniversary with the firm.

@paddockjudge Cask strength, 23 years old, perfect mash Bill. What’s not to love? That was my favourite of the samples you sent me.

@Nozinan, if only I could get 5 bottles of Wiser's 23 YO for $105 each instead of $150.

Ardbeg Supernova 2010, 60.1% ABV. This was the second release of Ardbeg Supernova, the first being in the year prior. This was the whisky which won my late wife over to peaty, smokey, briny whisky. In 2011, after she had tasted a store sample, she actually suggested that we get a bottle of SN2010, which was at the then higher than what we were used to paying tariff of about $ 135. I was not about to refuse her suggestion. I could not believe that it was she who was suggesting it. The bottle was wonderful from the beginning and just got better and better with time. Nine years later this last sample of SN2010 actually seems to have the most intense flavours that it has ever had. Fabulous, fabulous whisky. This, together with a first rate batch of Uigeadail, is what I want to see from Scottish whisky. Goodbye, my bottle of SN2010! I miss you already!

@BlueNote in many ways my late wife introduced me to alcohol culture and expanded my knowledge of it. Julie was 6.5 years my junior. She worked in the hospitality industry in luxury hotels as a concierge. Over 30+ years in her job she was offered hundreds of complimentary meals with drinks for the two of us. She liked wines. She liked cocktails. She, like my big sister, always liked bourbon. She very much liked the ritual of going out for drinks. She never discouraged my experimentation and acquisition of new whisk(e)ys and other spirits to try and explore. She explored them too. She was slightly bemused and chagrined, though, when I would tell her that she had strongly influenced me to indulge in the appreciation of alcoholic beverages. As the number of whisk(e)y bottles in the house reached into the hundreds, she would ask, "What are we going to do with all of this whisk(e)y?". What indeed? Now it is for me to drink and share it, over quite a few years, I should think.

It is a great blessing for a whisky-loving man to have whisky-loving women in his life!!! I still have my big sister to pal around with, fortunately.

@Victor Ongoing condolences on the far-too-soon passing of Julie, aka @Dramlette. She was, by all accounts, a wonderful wife and companion. Many of us connosr longtimers felt your loss at the time. We are glad that you are still here and still contributing to our whisky knowledge bank.

@BlueNote Indeed. My bourbon knowledge is much richer thanks to @Victor ’s tutelage. I’m also grateful for the off-topic yet educational discussions we’ve had regarding other spirits, history, philosophy, and theology.

I just finished my bottle of Gibson’s Finest Bold 8 Year Old. Not a bad whisky, but not something I’m likely to buy again. It’s marketed as a mixer and that’s where it shines. Neat or on the rocks, it’s kind of ordinary with a few oddball “off” notes.

I just finished my bottle of Gooderham & Worts 49 Wellington 19 Year Old. It was a terrific whisky. While it wasn’t overly bold, it was rich and complex with a ton of nuance. This whisky is a magnificent example of Dr Don Livermore’s talent as a blender.

I can barely remember the last bottle i emptied. I usually get nostalgic and leave a splash at the bottom moving on to the next attraction so I'm a rare finisher. I do believe the last bottle I finished was a little gem called Bunnahabhain Moine.

@fiddich1980 I'm glad I have a couple of OP 17s bunkered, because, IMHO, the current 18 is not in the same league.

I can rarely find the right occasion for the last dram. But I'm expecting a couple of bottles to arrive and I want to open them before they sink into the ever-growing pile of "to be opened" (but) forgotten bottles.

When I first tried (and later reviewed) this malt, I wasn't too impressed. It's the only bottle that changed for me so much that I re-reviewed it years later.

I opened this COOP single cask Mortlach back in 2014 when $100 for a bottle was a big deal. But when I bought a back-up in 2017 at the same price, I didn't regret it one bit.

Now, over 6 years later, twice decanted, I've consumed the last 25 cc. And it was delicious.

@MRick I was fortunate to “find” someone willing to part with their last bottle of EC 12 for a very fair price. I plan on (eventually) doing a side by side with a bottle of the more recent (late 2019-early 2020 bottling) EC Small Batch which I also have in the bunker. So many plans, so little time.

@OdysseusUnbound you should compare it to the ECBP as well. Also 12 years Some stunning batches at stunning ABVs

@MRick Elijah Craig 12 yo Barrel Proof is an American whiskey Greatest Hit. It is the next best thing sometimes available, now that the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection and Van Winkle whiskeys have become so difficult and expensive to get. I saw this coming when ECBP first came out about 7 years ago and put away multiple bottles whenever I got the chance. I've tasted (and own) a bunch of them. There was only one batch out of 15+, early in the run which was a little "meh" on quality compared to the others. The rest are first rate blue chip choices, assuming you like the intensity of high proof whiskey. If you get the opportunity to buy one at a non-scalper's price, pick it up. They usually disappear from shelves very quickly, and do not reappear for a long interval of time.

@Victor Those of us in Ontario can only get it at a “scalper’s price” since the LCBO is a cruel and mean-spirited scalper. ($140-$160 for ECBP)

@Nozinan I believe someone provided me with a sample of ECBP hazmat edition....
