This is for BB&R Clynelish 1997.
I've heard so many great things about Clynelish that I decided to subject myself to the ruthless price gouging of the LCBO to procure a few bottles. This is the first of four Clynelish reviews.
Nose: buttery with mild lemon, herbal honey, malt, and some slight vanilla.
Palate: the nose translates to the palate. A soft delivery of buttery honey lemon, like a lemon sweet that is not overly sweet. There is some mild vanilla and nondescript spice. I find the flavours very integrated and difficult to differentiate.
Finish: spice reemerges significantly on the palate, reminiscent of Highland Park. There is a nice tannic grip that lingers and mellows into a pleasing bitterness.
Overall, I might describe this as relatively boring. It was difficult to decipher over the 10 months of tasting but more often than not it was relatively bland and uninteresting (relative to my expectations for Clynelish).
