The Lagavulin 12 is a mainstay in the Special Releases. This one is a vatting of refill American oak.
Ka-boom! I’ve only just poured this baby and already know it’s going to be grand. A chiseled nose on brackish water with linseed oil and a sweet touch of honey and grapefruit. The smoke keeps you waiting for a bit, but then kicks in with a vengeance.
Contrary to last year’s expression, peat is not the lead actor in this flick, but the indispensable supporting actor that eventually scoops up the Oscar. Some cow pat, but not an off note!
What a flavour bomb! I taste nougat, citrus, almond milk (!) and a truckload of fresh Tunisian olives. Really peppery, maritime and just sublime.
The finish is full of ashes.
You cannot go wrong with Lagavulin, I guess.
Find where to buy Lagavulin whisky
Your last sentence really sums it up for me. In all my years drinking whisky, I've only had one disappointing Lagavulin and it was a pour of the 16 Year Old at a Keg Restaurant in Toronto. Who knows how long that bottle had been open, or if it had been turned into a makeshift "infinity bottle". I've got two bottles of the 2017 Lag 12 CS and I'm always on the lookout for more. This one sounds as great as the others.
