A training partner of mine is heading off to the navy for a half dozen years tomorrow, so we went own to the Lark and did a tasting of four Lark Distillery bottlings, as well as two other drams. This was the second of the afternoon.

The LD111 was matured in port barrels. The nose was full of the traditional Lark Distillery maltiness, with hints of cinnamon, pears, sultanas and a hint of sweet port liqueur. You can really smell the difference in barrels between this one and the LD157.

The taste, like the LD157 starts with a spicy cinnamon base, but has a distinctly hot chilli edge - pleasantly different. More caramel sweet than vanilla as well. Notes of pears and sultanas. Less mouth-watering than the LD157, but not by much.

The finish is full of caramel, light chilli spices, and hints of sweet and warm port liqueur.

Not quite as good as the LD157, but another solid dram!
