I'm doing a small tasting flight of Ardbeg 10, Corryvreckan, and Uigeadail. It may turn out to be too much of a peat-fest, but only time will tell!

@michaelschout: Let us know what they taste like on the night, please. Four of us did exactly this tasting but with a Caol Ila 12yo. from the 3x 200ml. pack, as well - They were all good; 2 votes for Corryvrekan, one each for the Uigeadail and Caol Ila. The 'Uigeadail' person thought we had all lost our reason (and said so)!

@RoganFox - Happy 40th!
Tonight I had Macallan 12, SMWS 7.55 (40 year Longmorn) and SMWS 127.13 (8 year Bruichladdich Port Charlotte). Sherry, then Sherry Bomb and then Smoke. Wonderful stuff!

@RoganFox, Happy # 40! I missed your original late night West Coast posting, and am now posting very early AM here. My one sample of Glenfarclas 40 was quite memorable for me, so I wish you a long enjoyment of your bottle of it!

As part of the London (Ontario) Food and Wine Show on Saturday evening:
After the Islay 2002 at home, I finished the evening with Lagavulin 16 to compare to the Dun Bheagan Islay 2002 & 2003. My full size bottle of Lagavulin 16 is nearing the 1/4 full mark, likely to be finished by March. A 200 mL bottle is in back-up position, ready to take over!

@A'bunadhman It's hard to chose a favourite! Without water I'm going to have to say the Uigeadail was my preference, but with water the Corry was my preference. The Corry just needed a couple drops of water to calm the alcohol on the palate and then it was like a whole new world opened up.
@RoganFox Happy Birthday!

@michaelschout: Thank you! That was my impression too but the Caol Ila was a might fine 'drop' and so delicious and unlike the others was freshly opened - The owner of the pack had demolished the Cask Strength along with the 18yo....how inconsiderate!
Cheers.

Well I actually have a couple of whisky opened... The very last dram I had was Buffalo Trace. I bought Yamazaki 12yr along with the Buffalo.

Along with my previously mentioned Knob Creek, Jameson, and Highland Park 12, I've added 2 new whiskies to my cabinet,and because I can't prevent my curiosity from taking root, I've opened and tried both.
One is a Glenfiddich 12 Year. I bought this one because I really enjoyed the pour of it that I had at a pub with my girlfriend. I really enjoy the fruity flavours it has, and love the way it really opens up if you keep it in your mouth for a few seconds. It may not have a lot of complexity, but it is a really enjoyable drink.
Also, if you burp afterwards, no matter what else you've eaten, you'll think you just ate a green apple. Very interesting, especially considering that most seem to think it's a simple whisky with nothing much of interest to speak of.
The second is the Laphroaig Quarter Cask, which is my first heavily peated whisky. I'm aware that HP12 has some peatiness to it, but it doesn't hit you the way the Laphroaig does on the nose or immediately on the tongue. I find the HP12's is more in the finish, and the Laphroaig QC's is very front-loaded.
It has a lot of other nice, subtle flavours in there. Something I never see mentioned is that it has a bit of a smell of olives, and even has the taste of olives in there, too. I'd say it's just me, but my friend thought the same, so there must be something to it. Anyway, this one is amazing. I put it on par with the HP12 in terms of taste, which was my favourite until now.
My journey has only started with these 5 whiskies. I'm excited to get a new one, but for now I'm going to wait until I've exhausted one or two of the bottles I already have, because it's too expensive to do otherwise at the moment.
I think I have a pretty good variety to go forward with anyway, just with these 5. I tried my best to get ones that had very little in common with each other, and through my tastings I've confirmed that I have chosen ones with very different flavour profiles, indeed!

Tonight I'm having Bushmills Black Bush. My admiral (wife) is also enjoying this one, it's not her beloved Coal ila but she likes it. :)

Sipping on a bit of Talisker Distillers Edition (2000 batch). Like the previous batch I've tasted (1996) this one is getting better the further it goes down in the bottle..

Last night, I had a pour of Booker's Small Batch (@63.7% abv). I put a little more water into it than I usually do (apprx 1 part water to 3 parts whisky). It holds up well flavour/aroma wise, will taking out the anesthetic like quality of the alcohol on the tongue.

Sipping on two nice wheat bourbons; private barrel pick of Old Weller Antique and another pick of Willett cask strength 8 year old. Both very nice drinkers.
