The Ultimate Glenrothes 1995 Aged 17 years was fairly entertaining roller coaster ride of spices and delicate sweetness in a dry palate. This 1st fill sherry butt of an 17 year old Glenrothes 1995 (Cask No. 6970) is a bottling by 'The Ultimate Whisky Company'.
The nose was very light and delicate yet magnificent. Truly the best part of this Ultimate Glenrothes. Otherwise a decent show by Glenrothes and The Ultimate.
Like Full Metal Jacket where the first act gives you a mind blowing introduction and high hopes to yet so average script. Still, a dram worth tasting and I would recommend it to everyone.
Nose: Buttery malt with caramel kinda aromas on the side. Like marshmallows at first but turns into more powerful and sweet sherry wine at the end. I think it also turned a bit peaty when it was given enough air.
Taste: Raw kind of bitter chocolate and cinnamon wrapped in dry oak. With fruity notes as well.
Finish: Fairly long, dry, oaky and bit spicy finish. A bit like rum with herbs.
Balance: Balancing well between dry, spicy and sweet. May I say dark yet mellow?
