@Astroke I prefer my spirits at higher strength, even rum. I know there are a few out there, Smith and Cross being available here. If I ever head to the Caribbean again I'll be sure to look for some of the less branded stuff.

And of course I'm still really hoping that my brother in law can get me a cask strength bottle of that Cognac-style grape spirit I tasted from the cask in Xinjiang province this summer.

@casualtorture

@Victor we still have the 6yo triple aged in China. Don't remember the price though.

@Victor and @paddockjudge The conversation about Triple and Double aged was quite topical for me. I just finished listening to the episode of the whsky.buzz podcast with Matt Jones as guest, and Jones basically laid out the same answer that Victor just did re: Double being 8 and Triple being 6. He also mentioned that the Extra is 5. Well, he said it was a blend of 5-8, which as we know would make it 5 if they had chosen to put a number on the label.

Here's the episode in question if anyone wants to listen: whsky.buzz/thewhiskytopic/…

@Nelom, 5 years ago @dramlette sat at a whiskey dinner with Fred Noe. Noe was asked "Which Jim Beam product would bother you the most to lose from the Jim Beam line?" His answer was "Jim Beam Black Label". While I have not yet sampled the "Extra Aged" US current Jim Beam Black Label, I am quite certain that they will try as hard as humanly possible to make it as close to the old 8 yo as is possible in taste profile. The old 8 yo Jim Beam Black was usually quite a lovely bourbon. My guess is that if a weighted average for age were done for the current Extra Aged, that it would be about 6.5 years. Would I like to taste it? Sure. I'd be surprised if I did not like it. Don't need to buy any, because I have 4 Litres of the 8 yo socked away.
