Not sure what to open next as its a bit of a conundrum which should come first. Just bought Colonel Taylor tornado surviving ware house c and barrel proof, old weller antique single barrel, pappy van winkles 15 year old reserve, John J Bowman single barrell, Glenfarclas 1974, Dallas Dhu (signatory) 30 year old and George T Stagg.

On Saturday night, as a 'pre-celebrations' of our birthdays over the following days, 'WhiskyJoe' and I cracked open my bottles of Yamazaki 18 and Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX. The Yamazaki is awesome, especially on the nose...definitely a 'nose, sip, and savour' dram over the course of an evening.
The Sonnalta PX had, at least for the first 10-15 minutes after first pour, an over-ripe banana peel note that, for me, dominated the nose in an offputting way (a bit of a surprise based on my previous samplings of this one. The banana sweetened and started to blend into the rest of the fruit aromas as time went on, so I am quite hopeful that this was a one-off experience that will disappear with the bottle now open.
We finished the evening with 'WhiskyJoe's first sample of Talisker 18 from a bottle that I opened in April...awesome stuff, especially now that the bottle has now been open almost five months.

My next purchase will likely be a bottle of Jameson 18, my birthday present to myself, made possible by the collective generosity of my friends and family over the past several days. The LCBO inventory for this bottle has been rapidly disappearing since I first discovered this dram at a bar in May.

@Sroberts86
I cannot speak for the other bottles you bought, but the Warehouse C Tornado surviving is a delicious dram! Vanilla, spicy rye, & caramel deliciousness!

Tonight I took my wife with me to a local retail spirits store's hosting, of a tasting by reps of Hudson Whiskey, offering samples of their range of single grain whiskeys. For the most part, they were very good for the Bourbon and Rye fans, but their single malt offering wasn't anything special. In the end, we ended up getting a bottle of Ardbeg Corryvreckan to take home.

During my trip to the UK I made it to the Whisky Exchange and what an experience! After much deliberation and a sample my 3 purchases were made. Talkisker 18 yr, Arberg Galileo (the gentleman who was helping me sampled it the day before and rates it very highly), and lastly Ardbeg Corryvreckan. The service was great all bottles wrapped in paper repacked and wrapped in bubble wrap for the trip home and VAT reclaim forms were given. Visiting this store was a truly memorable experience, the sheer number of whiskys and the service provided was outstanding. If you can make it out to visit, I recommend that you do.

@Pudge72 decided to change his mind...yes, this will be the first, and only time I refer to myself in the third person. I feel dirty about it. :)
As the LCBO couldn't give a definitive answer on when the next Jameson 18 shipment is coming in (other than it is at some point), I decided to pull the trigger on a 1992 Clynelish (18 yr old) from Signatory Vintage's UnChillFiltered (UCF) line. It is bottled at 46% from two hogshead casks that were sister casks to each other, and to a 16 year old bottling that Signatory put out under the same label two years earlier. I got to try my bottle twice at a local pub who had used a bottle as part of a whisky tasting. I had always been curious about the Clynelish signature 'waxy' note, and this bottle seems to deliver it quite nicely. It is only my 2nd independant bottler purchase (following the Dun Bheagan Islay 8 yo distilled in 2002) and both have been this year. With the purchase cost, I am still able to be about 1/2 way to saving up for the originally intended Jameson 18 purchase, which I hope to make by the end of November.

We picked up a bottle of Dalmore 12 this week at a local market for less than $45US. Despite the fact the owners of Dalmore do just about everything wrong, chill filtered, caramel coloring, and sold at 40%abv, it is still a very good tasting malt! At a price this low, it was worth picking up. The Duncan Taylor bottle of Rare Auld Dalmore 20 year old I purchased recently, just proves how well this distillery can make good Scotch whisky, when it is released at cask strength, with no coloring or chill filtering.

@talexander I agree. The 15 year old is a sherry bomb. Aged completely in sherry casks, the malt is overwhelmed! The 12 year old is better, though I actually liked it a little better before Paterson "improved" it. The current 12 year Dalmore, has malt where 50% of the whisky is aged in Bourbon casks, and 50% in sherry casks. The older version had 60% of the whisky aged in Bourbon casks and 40% in sherry casks. It was also bottled at a sligthly higher 43%abv.

Just bought one of my favorite whiskies that I've ever tried! Abbey's Secret Speyside Casks 40 year old! I've been giggling all night long!

Just ordered a bottle of Ardbeg Uigedail, a whisky that has been on my to-get list for ages. No one in my area sells it, so I had to order it online. Looking forward to it!

I hadn't known that Macallan Cask Strength (10 yo) was being discontinued. Hate, hate, hate to see this go. What remains here has already increased 20% in price since last month. When a liquor store manager told me about the discontinuation today, I bought two more bottles of it.

Correction: this is the NAS Macallan Cask Strength, and not the 10 yo, that is being discontinued.

@Victor I recently purchased the new NAS Macallan Gold. Will need to stock up on the CS before it disappears. Hasn't gone up in price in here yet. Still about $69

@Victor thanks for the heads up
I just looked up the Macallan CS here in Virginia and noticed a number of price hikes all just since Yesterday! I just looked at it at a liquor store here on Tuesday and today the price went up $24!!! Also Lagavulin prices just shot up on all their bottlings. The most amazing price increase was Talisker 18yo which is now $145!!! (the 10yo went up also).
I'm just a little shocked . . .

A second birthday related purchase was made today...the Strong Malts Collection of 20 cl bottles of Talisker 10 (I can now compare to my Talisker 18!), Lagavulin 16 (back up for when my big bottle of Lagavulin 16 inevitably empties), and Cragganmore 12 (a bottle where I love the nose enough to get a bottle, but am still unsure of enough not to purchase a full sized bottle).
This pack is on its way out (or at least the current stock of it is) at the LCBO and the price ($55) means that for what those bottles are being charged for individually, I am basically gettting the Cragganmore for free!!

I picked up a bottle of Bowmore Tempest last night. It came along with a free signed copy of 101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die by Ian Buxton.

After a preview tasting at the SMWS in Leith last night I bought a bottle of a 14yo Bowmore which had spent it's life in a 2nd fill sherry cask. Sweet and smokey, pretty much perfect.

Would like to pick up another Talisker 10 yr...I'd like to compare it to my current bottle.

@GotOak91 - I prefer the 15 slightly over the 18 - to me, the 18 has a wee bit too much oak to it.

@GotOak91, of Glenfiddich 15, 15 DE, and 18, my favourite is the 15 DE, except that it has like, NO FINISH. Fantastic in the mouth and nose, though, then just dies...
