Picked up two more today. One to open on St. Patty's day, and the other to feed my growing peat addiction.

Redbreast 12 year old Cask Strength (Batch B1/12, at 58.6% ABV). Bruichladdich/Port Charlotte The Peat Project (46% ABV).

I made a couple pre-delivery purchases. I'm expecting two bottles of 1999 Karuizawa and another that really excited me is a buddy of mine called the other day and said his brother found 8 bottles of Bushmills Millennium in upstate NY. I should see the bottles mid summer.

@Bourbondork...2 bottles of the Karuizawa you say? Now you have me wondering if I should go back for a 2nd myself!

I'm giving some serious thought to buying a bottle of Caol Ila 28 Year Cooper's Choice tomorrow. I tried to find out more about it, but came up a bit dry... At least for that particular bottling. I do like the distillery a lot though, so I think it's worth a shot.

Just cracked open the bottle of Kavalan Bourbon cask strength that I purchased last week. I knew it was good at the tasting, but it's looking so much better now!

@broadwayblue Thought about a second bottle as well. Hesitant given I have not tried before and only review is from K&L. Would be interested to know if you get a second.

@Bourbondork - Did you get a second as you have tried before or do you tend to buy in twos like I do (drink one and save one)?

@Bourbondork
Bourbondork replied

@msudukie and @broadwayblue This is a blind purchase for me. Japanese whiskey is still relatively hard to find here in the States but so far I've had Yamazaki 12/18, Hibiki 12 and Nikka Yoichi 15 and all have been great. So, the track record for Japanese whiskey has been good which is why I pulled the trigger on these two. The reason I got two is because the distillery is not in operation anymore and stock is very limited. It was one of those "I'd hate to only have one if I like it". If I don't care for it, the second bottle becomes trade bait.

@Bourbondork - Your logic got into my head and I could not resist a second bottle. Glad I did as they only had 9 bottles left out of 510 and are out of the 81'. I can't say my wife is as glad but thank goodness she is supportive of my addiction.

I'm about to open a Laphroaig Quarter Cask purchased from Dan Murphy at Middle Park Brisbane and boldly printed in Danish across the rear label is "FARVEN JUSTERET MED KARAMEL" Dictionary Boss translates this as "Colours adjusted with Caramel". 'Never seen this before!

@Bourbondork I picked up some Kuriuzawa too. It was crazy how fast they sold through. I don't think I've been more excited about a bottle in quite a while.

@cpstecroix & @msudukie - It's probably less logic and more passion. My wife also is supportive for the most part with my whiskey addiction....in fact, she talks more about my collection than I do. As soon as these bottles were available, I jumped as I knew they would sell out quickly. Keep in mind, according to K&L, this is the first time Karuizawa is available in the U.S. market. I have a couple K&L selections and they've typically been very good so I have high hopes for this Japanese offering.

Im planning on acquiring a bottle of Clynelish 14 or Aberlour 16. Maybe both lol. Im a little torn between the two as I haven't had either one but I've heard they're delicious.

@GotOak91 - Haven't had the Aberlour 16 (LCBO just stopped carrying it...), but the Clynelish 14 is fantastic.

@YakLord Im thinking about the Aberlour 16 since where Im at their both basically the same price. ($51) for the Aberlour 16 and ($54) for the Clynelish 14. Two extra years of aging for less money sounds like a good deal.

YakLord replied

@GotOak91 - in that case, yes, I'd go with the Aberlour (which is $91.25 CAD at the SAQ in Quebec vs. the $79.55 CAD for the Clynelish 14 at the LCBO in Ontario)

@HeartlessNinny

@YakLord Wow, I thought prices here in BC were bad. I didn't realize Quebec was on par -- we don't have the 16 available here, but the A'Bunadh is $95.

I'm on the hunt for a bottle of Glenmorangie Artein. Very hard to find in my neck of the woods. If I find one, it's mine.

Been thinking about picking up another Ardbeg...Not sure which of these 2 to try; Uigeadail, or the Corryvreckan.

@HeartlessNinny

@teebone673 I was fortunate enough to find a bottle of Artein last year. I think it was well worth it -- damn good stuff. Good luck with the search!

I also went in for a few of the K&L Karuizawas - two each of the 1999 and 1981. I'm intrigued by the 1999, and just giddy about the 1981s. I've yet to have a Noh release (Karuizawa or Hanyu, for that matter) that wasn't just superb, and 1981 in particular (and the early 80s in general) was a great year for the distillery.

I just found a rather elusive Bowmore Dorus Mor this week, and opened it tonite. I am finding that my palate is enjoying cask-strength types more and more since experiencing my potent Corryvreken.

@A'bunadhman I've seen this before, and of course the German version of the wording as well, from bottles bought here in Australia. I guess we don't necessarily end up with product specifically ear-marked for our small market.

Just picked up a couple of old blends - Langs Supreme and Heather Mist bottled 1970's and a Glen Mhor 8 year old bottled 1969 mini.. that should appease my interest in OBE for the moment, so when I'm feeling adventurous I'll crack them open. I'm definitely after some cask strength Aussie malts next though, to do my proper duty as an Australian - Bakery Hill, Overeem and possibly Lark are on the cards.
