Old Forester Birthday and Signature Bourbon - two purchases made yesterday - an attempt to bolster the strategic stockpile.

Arran Amarone Cask for me. Bought last week from The Whisky Exchange, this was one I sampled at Manchester Whisky Festival last year.
I drew up a shortlist of bottles to buy at the end of that festival which included Arran Amarone. I only had the money to buy two from the list though and this one came in third place and so missed out at the time. But I never forgot it and now have acquired a bottle - really looking forward to it.

May not be the next one I open, but I was just at the LCBO and noticed that Aberlour A'Bunadh batch 45 was now on sale there. So I picked one up today. My 45th birthday is still 9 months away so I'll let he bottle settle or a while. Probably will take a pass on batches 46-49 unless I hear great things, or run low (with 14 other bottles - 11other batches- that should take a while), and aim for a 50 to save for 5 3/4 years from now. Then a 60...

Since my last post, I picked up a bottle of Glengoyne 10 year old.
I also received two bottles for my birthday last weekend, a bottle of Laphroaig Triple Wood, and a bottle of Amrut Fusion.

Next purchase will be a replacement bottle of Glenlivet 18. Such a great whisky.

Contemplating picking up one of the BenRiach single cask bottles, as their latest batch has one from my birth year. One one hand, they're not cheap and I've spent more than enough this year already, but on the other hand, I'm not sure when my next chance will be to purchase a birthday bottling..
Anyone had experience with the BenRiach single casks?

@Whisk I don't think I'll ever be able to afford a scotch that was distiller in my birth year. That would be over 40 years old. I have a 30 year old that was purchased by someone else (distiller in 1963) but that's pretty much as old as I get.

I'm thinking about buying the Old Pulteney 21 yo...i'ts pretty expensive, though. I've seen pretty good reviews but is it worth the price?

@Adam80 I like this whisky a lot, but the price is expensive. I would say if you were going to buy one bottle this month, make it this one. Better yet, try it in a bar first if you can! I bought mine in the UK, and I'm glad I did, because here at home in Ontario it was almost double the price.

@Whisk The BenRaich single casks are amazing! And one of a kind.

Just purchased at last the long awaited bottle of Old Pulteney 21yr old. I have been waiting for this one for a while so it will be interesting to see what develops. :)

@PMessinger
Let us know how you like it. I read in a couple places that the 17 is actually better...but since I've never tasted the 21 I can't say if that's true.

I'm planning on getting a bottle soon. What's the verdict?@PMessinger

@broadwayblue I find the 17 year old less subtle than the 21 - they are different but if I had to rate them next to each other, I couldn't say which is "better".

@talexander - Not only are these expressions pricey, but difficult to obtain. I haven't had any luck finding the OP17yo. The OP23 yo is twice the price of OP21, so I passed on that and picked up two 21's for $10 more than a single 23...and couldn't resist an OP12 for $49.78 all taxes included:)

@paddockjudge I found the OP17 in Buffalo - I haven't opened my bottle yet, but I had a dram on my last trip to Scotland. I love the 12 too. What a great distillery - I hope I get a chance to try some of their one-off bottlings...

@talexander - thanks, good to know. I'll be opening both OP's soon and will try to obtain an OP17 - hoping to make a day of it with the local whisky posse.

Just picked up a bottle of Stagg Jr.! Excited to pop this open and see how it measures up to it's big brother.

@broadwayblue and @Adam80 Thanks, I will let you know when I get to that bottle I have a few others waiting on the tarmac so the OP 21yr old is in a holding pattern. :)

@Nock I'm very curious too! I've not heard great things about it - so eager to hear your comments...

Next bottle will be HP 12. I've needed a replacement bottle for a little while and it's time.

I was introduced to a lot of nice single malt whisky by Paul, Whisky Bar, Kokkini Hani , Crete this summer. The experience, the atmosphere, the staff, the sea and the whisky was impresssive, and the whisky that both I and my lady loved the most was the Auchentoshan Three Wood. It will be purchased, maybe this week..
