Sadly I have, over the last couple of days, 'laid to rest' two rather special Ardbegs & where to from here, I know not. My local liquor barn has An Cnoc 16 at a small discount and one of the members here has described An Cnoc as "happiness in a bottle"...that's good enough for me!

I think it may have been maltymatt (?)

@two-bit-cowboy Cheers for the tasting notes, sounds like something I'd definitely want to try! I do like banana, have not nosed it in many (if any) malts so far so sounds like a winner.. good stuff!

Well, after much support and cajoling from my dear wife I bought myself the last bottle of Auchentoshan 21 from the MLCC. I plan on opening it on my 42 birthday this year. This makes the most sense in my warped mind as I will never be able to afford or justify a 42 year bottle of scotch! Unfortunately I now have to wait until July to crack this baby open.

Picked up my winnings from the post office today - a bottle of Octomore Comus 4.2 thanks to Mark Reynier at Bruichladdich and to my workmate for getting me onto Twitter - otherwise I wouldn't have had the chance to win it! Will have to let it sit for a couple of weeks as per the recommendation and then will enjoy with friends. I do love a good Sauternes finish.

The girlfriend and I picked up a bunch of stuff after the grand tasting of Whisk(e)y Weekend.

1.) Port Charlotte 7 -- I actually got to taste this last week through the generosity of a friend who gave me a sample. My girlfriend tried it at the Meet 'n' Greet. We were both blown away by the flavors of spice and smoke that we got from it. 2.) Kilchoman Inaugural 100% Islay -- I had tried this before at a Whisk(e)y Wednesday, and the GF tried it at the M'n"G. We really bought it for when our bottle of the Winter 2010 Release runs out. Still, it's very good. 3.) Suntory Hakushu 12 -- Lightly peated and very delicious is what I remember of this sample. 4.) High West Son of Bourye -- We tried this at the High West seminar on Saturday and were very impressed with it. 5.) Compass Box Great King Street Artist's Blend -- This was our second sample on Sunday, it will probably become my daily dram.

I'm planning to pick up a bottle of Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX on the way home from work tonight. My understanding is that this is becoming increasingly hard to find, and given that I've enjoyed the Quinta Ruban the glowing reviews of this are enticing.

A local bartender helped me discover an interesting bourbon recently: Old Grand Dad 114. It's quite inexpensive ($24 in WA) and a huge surprise. I like my bourbon quite hot, and spicy. This has a lot of rye in the mash bill. The palate brings on cinnamon, butterscotch, leather — tons of flavor and drama. The finish goes a bit buttery, and keeps me coming back to my glass. A bit turbulent on the heat, so not for everyone, but suits me fine. I considered this a fairly miraculous drink at the price, and even beyond the simple value. It's not the orange label OGD, if you seek it out make sure it's got a prominent "114" on the black/gold label.

I have a bottle of Glenom Signet in Winnipeg, waiting for me , purchased at the World of Whisky, gate 7, at Heathrow airport . The lengths we will go through to get our favorites can be astounding. This would be my second bottle. And yes, it really is as good as the reviews say it is.

@EvaRees...@Victor kindly supplied the OGD 114 as one of the samples at a get-together of Connosrites in December. I was shocked (in a good way) at the power of this one! I still recall the feeling of 'tentacles of wood' grabbing hold of my tongue when I tried this one. Powerful stuff, and at the price, just a great bottle to have on the shelf for a cool and different experience.

@EvaRees and @Pudge72, few whiskey things tickle and delight me more than for others to discover the joys of Old Grand-Dad 114. It just brings a smile and a laugh to my face. OGD 114 was my first Connosr review "Outrageous Old Man". All of my whisky gals, my wife and my two sisters, and I, love the stuff for its own outrageous self. I can't help but laugh just thinking of it! Big, big flavour bang, little little money.

@Lars , if you are going though Heathrow , there are apparently 5 terminals, each has it's own world of Whisky duty free. Many products are on the shelf, but to avoid dissapointment you may want to find out which terminal you are departing from and ensure they have you selection(s) there for you on departure. That's how Lilyrose did it . Here is their site to drool over as I did. It really is much more than you and I are use to in Winnipeg. worldofwhiskies.com/View-all-products-in-sh…

Big Big day for Victor today: # 1 Most Wanted whiskey acquired, my most elusive Rye Grail, two years in the seeking, Old Potrero Hotaling's Whiskey. Big big thanks to @ourobouros for the tip on where to find some! A quote from the back label of the bottle, regarding the 1906 San Francisco Fire and the Hotaling's Whiskey which survived it:

" If, as they say, God spanked the town For being overly frisky, Why did He burn the churches down And save Hotaling's whiskey?"

I'll open a Buffalo Trace 45% abv. that i purchased today: Most outlets around here have the 40% at Au.$5 more, so that was a good find!

On the way back I found a boxed set (4) of a very old but un-used Orrefors Aromglas / Cognac tasters. The pattern, 6140/56 is long discontinued. They are simply gorgeous in a style similar to Glenmorangie tasters but much finer, in crystal, slightly more bulbous and a little taller. Little old Antique Shop, little old lady owner who informs me that she thinks she has another box...somewhere. "Would I be interested?" "Yes!"

What a good day!

@Victor ...Congratulations on the Hoatlings!! Do keep us posted on your first experiences with the open bottle!

If all goes well, my carefully planned whisky budget will see me pick up Talisker 18 & McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt Whiskey in the next month or so, via family members traveling through the Cincinnati area.

@Pudge72 ...my next bottle to open will likely be the Redbreast 12 (probably tomorrow in honour of St. Patrick's Day) given to me at Christmas by those same awesome family members. In celebration of my first full week of employment I picked up a bottle of Prime Malt Bowmore 21, distilled in 1982 last night. I've had my eye on it for a while as it was only $61 USD. I haven't read any reviews so I'm hoping it's not like the soapy Bowmore 25.
