@chuck51, In your earlier post you had mentioned you were going to get a good deal on a Glenmorangie, is this the one, how much did you get it for?

I'm interested in trying out some of the newer ryes that have appeared of late, in particular a Mackenzie brand that is produced here in New York State, in the Finger Lakes region. Have any of the rye lovers here tried this one?
I will probably also be replacing my Balvenie DoubleWood with another Speysider - my boyfriend seems to prefer this style and it would be nice to have something new to share this weekend. Maybe a Cragganmore?

@DevD That's the one I was looking for. The options in Virginia at our local stores aren't that great so I'm constantly browsing the internet to see what's out there. I found that 1975 Glenmorangie for $250. I did a little research and found it on thewhiskyexchange.com for 399 British Pounds. I figured I'd be a fool if I didn't get it, so I got it. The lady who owned it just needed the money so she sold it. I cracked it open as soon as I got it home.

Like Manna from Heaven I await my first bottle of Bailie Nicol Jarvie blended Scotch whisky. BNJ is not sold in the US, so I will be taken care of by the husband of my niece, who has most generously volunteered to bring it back to me from one of his business trips to London. The arrival of the bottle is likely still a few weeks away.

@misslauren, I haven't seen the MacKenzie rye whiskey in this region.
Most people like Cragganmore 12 pretty well. I do.

I just had a bottle of Old Pulteney 21 year old arrive! I hope to be able to open it next sunday when my dog finally arrives in Australia from the US, but it all depends on what my wife says :D

Leaning towards the Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask. Recent purchases have been Ardbeg 10 and the Uigeadail. Thought a nice Speyside would freshen things up.

Just got home from the store with an Ardbeg Alligator. Looking forward to the experience.

Last Friday I purchased and opened Glenmorangie Lasanta, Glenmorangie Original, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, Glenmorangie Nectar D’or, Springbank 10, Talisker 10, and Aberlour A’bunadh batch 30. The Nectar D’or was already in the cabinet so all it required was opening and drinking. Needless to say it was a great weekend. The situation had changed slightly from the original plan, but after speaking with Lillyrose (who was the guest for the weekend), we decided to go for the gold so to speak. At the time I was down to only 5 open bottles I found it mildly disturbing that I allowed the Stocks to get so low. Something had to be done! Although I’m not really sure if I’m any farther ahead however , after letting Lillyrose get her paws on all that Glenmorangie.

Looking to get a bottle of the Old Hebridean 1990 Sheep Dip, as I hear it's quite good value for the dollar. Also have my eye out for the Caol Ila Distiller's Edition. It has pretty mixed reviews as far as I can tell, but I had a dram a few weeks back and really enjoyed it... and the ol' brain is stuck on adding a bottle to my stock.

One of my bottles of either Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength or Glenmorangie Finealta will be opened this evening. Haven't quite decided which....

I will be picking up a bottle of Glenmorangie Artein once it shows up at my local source. I have no clue what to open next.

Just purchased a bottle of J&B Ultima. Couldn't learn much about it, but seemed like an interesting addition to the collection.

I acquired 2 Robert Graham bottlings after an excellent tasting last week. A 1992 Alt A Bhannie and a 1996 Tobermory. I'm currently hunting for a Tobermory 15yo from the distillery.

@OCeallaigh, in regards to your comment to Lars about the Ardbeg Uiegeadail, we both live in Manitoba, Canada, to us a rare treasure like that is imported and unavailable on the shelves of our government run liquor stores. when he finishes it , it's gone until someone is kind enough to bring him another from the States or abroad. I have so far had purchased for me ( I reimbursed of course) 1 bottle of Glenmorangie Signet , worth every penny of the exorbitant price. I am now awaiting Lilyrose's parents to return from England with another. Canada is a little behind in the variety that many of you enjoy . I have read in the past of the fine offering that Victor and others are privy to and am envious . Signet is only available in one shop in all Canada , it is in Alberta , and is called Bin 905. But legalities prevent the shop keep to ship it from province to province. Ahhh well it is what we have, and we shall learn to deal with the draconian situation .

@ Victor, as you are waiting for your first bottle of B.N.J... I just recently bought two new bottles of this excellent Blend - it´s a very interesting Whisky: fresh notes of grass and citrus combined with deeper tones of barley and a bit of toffee... I´m sure you will enjoy it, I like it very much but it needed some time to grow on me as this is not to snuggie but the overall balance and quality of B.N.J. are really excellent.
My next bottle will be a Glengoyne 21 or a Laddie (Black art II or Infinity 2), I´m not sure yet which one I will go for.

@maltster, I decided to go with the conscensus love of B.N.J. and look to acquire a bottle, even though my tastes usually don't enjoy much citrus in whisky. A blend that makes the Connosr top 50 ratings list, though, is certainly one to try! It is still at least a couple of weeks away for me, probably.
Your Glengoyne and Bruichladdich plans look like a lot of fun, too. I would love a taste.
@ A.J. Bon courage! I think that if I lived in Manitoba that I would organize a transport system with my whisky buddies acquiring some products from Alberta, some from Ontario, and some from the US. I am sorry that I would be severely economically punished if I wanted to bring 20 bottles up to you and to Lilyrose. We have a lot available for sale down here, but nonetheless one does really have to hustle to get some of the premium scarce items, or to get the better prices. Around here the relationships with the vendors are crucial to success.

@retsirhc, Compass Box Asyla is gentle and beautiful. I love it. Don't expect fireworks, though. It is not that kind of whisky.

@retsirhc I have tried Compass Box Oak Cross a few times , one of the guys out here likes it , and you know , it's quite good . As Victor said , it won't knock your socks off , but you will not regret it... peat monster sounds like it would be quite entertaining also.

My next one will be a Hazelburn 8 year old single bourbon cask that netted 228 bottles. Oh, I can't wait.

@two-bit-cowboy Be sure to add a review, please! Or at least reply with what your think of it. I saw a Hazelburn 8yo Sauternes for sale the other day which piqued my interest in the brand (have not tried any yet).

The next bottle i have bought is one i've been planning on buying for some time, essentially waiting for it to be released! After sampling "The First" from Chichibu at last years Whisky Show i was very impressed and kept an eye out for the release date.
Thanks to the video blog from Billy & Darren I found that it was due out early this year, and today it was unleashed on the TWE website. Needless to say the first thing i did this morning was to order myself a bottle! Really looking forward to having a bottle of this, it left a great impression on me at the show last year!

@systemdown Yeah, I'll post a note about my thoughts. Not very good at that "review" thing, but I'll let you know what I think -- should be near the end of the month.

Opened a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 tonight. Got a friend to think a little more about trying more bourbons after he tried it.

Just purchased and tried a Springbank 12 year old in Claret Wood. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at describing what my tongue tastes but I can say this is an excellent scotch. I'm a big fan of complexities and this dram will take you on ride you won't soon forget.
This is also my first Springbank and what an introduction this is.

@systemdown Our case arrived earlier than we expected.
A Scotsman once told me, "The Irish boil all the goodness out of their whiskey in that third distillation."
Perhaps.
Hazelburn 8 year old, Bourbon Cask, Cask Strength, 56.5%, 228 bottles. Well then, is there a nose? So light to be nearly not there. Ripe, sauteed bananas, maybe? Gosh, it's austere. I taste banana for sure. I don't get any of the stuff from the distillery's (or importer's) notes ( preissimports.com/productsdetail.aspx/… ).
Most whiskies generally stimulate a "next whisky" to try after "this" one. Not so here. This whisky is so unusual, so individualistic, that all I want is another glass of this whisky. I'm NOT a marketing geek for Springbank, but this is brilliant!
There's vanilla. But it's not the generic bottle of pure vanilla. This is the raw stuff you buy in a specialty store.
There's a sweetness (abrupt and short-lived), there's a bitterness (long-lived). then that natural vanilla again.
Curios. Good, but simple. Anything else to say? No, I don't think so.
