@Nozinan I saw that review online but don’t know what that means (ie. I have no idea how “hard” a marker he is). The review was pretty detailed though.

I'm completely smitten by the bottle of Springbank 10 I bought a month ago. I was looking for a bottle of Tobermory 10 but was resigned to the fact that maybe I should buy another bottle of SB10 while I knew they still had a couple of older 2014 bottles. Then I found this....no not the Haig!. No big rush to buy one now (and I found a Toby 10).

@Hewie is that the look of the standard Springbank 10 box over there? here it looks completely different - sharp orange and black box.

Opened a Highland Park 12 last night - this is one of the old bottles from before they went all, well, you know . . .

It's good. Very nice nose and easy to drink with a lovely boozy pineapple note. On first impressions this seems better than the last bottle I had, which was the newer style - a lot richer.

Over the Over the week-end I picked up a new rye whisky by Maison Sivo, it's a 3 yr old rye made from a mash of 2/3 rye and 1/3 malted barley, finished in port casks.

I cracked it to see if it was worthy of being my second bottle for a certain epic session, I found the port influence is more present on the nose, the palate is pretty zesty, should be fun to have in a line-up.

Also had my first taste of Nadurra 16yr old...wow! It is certainly worthy of the hoarding that @ajjarrett is doing laughing seriously though, I got lots of candied pineapple, creamy vanilla, citrus, just luscious!

Mentioned I had tried Dry Fly's Straight Triticale Whiskey. They're based in Spokane, WA. I've never had a hybrid of rye and wheat, so I enjoyed and continue to enjoy the different flavors and textures. Don't know a lot about distilleries in the Pacific Northwest, but after having tried Dry Fly, I'm now curious about the others...might just have to plan a road trip for next summer.

@cricklewood Out of curiosity, do you remember the batch number of the 16yo Nadurra you tried? You are spot on with identifying with some of the main/typical flavors with a 16yo Nadurra. Will you get a chance to enjoy it again? A bit of sad news, the store near Seattle I got many of the bottles is now sold out of them. No, I didn't do it. I think. ^_^

@ajjarrett yes it is from batch 0814, this one seems to have a good reputation with some members. I got this bottle for my brother who was my mentor of sorts into the world of single malts.

I'll most likely have a chance to get another dram from it, he's normally more of a Sherry influence /European oak fan but he was won over by this. There is a depth in the Nadurra that was really interesting, there was a lot of oak and vanilla but it was complimentary to the malt, it doesn't feel like a flashy bourbon overcoat.

@cricklewood 08/14, good score. That's the one we are all on the lookout for. I only have one more after the one I am currently enjoying. Our best hope is if @ajjarrett ever decides to auction off a few from his sizeable stash. wink

@RikS Been keeping a bit of a low profile since we got back from our 5 week UK trip. There was much overindulgence in the food and beverage department, I managed to gain about 8 pounds in the 5 weeks so I have been trying to behave myself as far as my whisky and food consumption goes. That meant staying away from the temptations of connosr for a while. Couldn't stand it any longer so dove back in today. Good to be back. relaxed

Also received notification that I was caught in a speed camera on the M-1 in Northamptonshire on the way up to Scotland. 40 pounds to the car rental agency and it looks like it will be 100 pounds to the polis. unamused

@BlueNote well, it's good to see you again - all of you including the newly acquired 8lbs. Now, pray explain: you gotta pay a fine to thr coppers AND the Rental company (??) for speeding?

@casualtorture

@BlueNote If you don't live in the UK why even bother with it? I don't think they will extradite you for a traffic violation. Speed cameras should be illegal anyway, no way to face your accuser.

@RikS - Seems that's the norm as, long story short, my partner is using a hire car after someone wrote her car off and it's in the small print that should we get a speeding ticket not only do we pay the fine but a £40 admin charge to the rental co, as well . . . awesome!

@RikS Yes, the car hire outfit owns the car, so they get the speeding ticket, pass it on to me and charge 40 quid for administration. I was only doing 57 in a 50 zone and my GPS said the speed limit was 60, but it was clearly signed 50 as the photo they sent me showed. That adds up to the price of a pretty good bottle of single malt.

@chelseafcchamps, I did the same thing two weeks ago while impatiently waiting for the new releases. I bought the Hazelburn 10 YO, initially disappointed, but content to own it a week later. A nice dram from a very special distillery. A few days after opening this one bloomed nicely.

@paddockjudge My experience with the Hazelburn 10 exactly. I just got a bottle of the 13 year old Hazelburn Oloroso Cask Matured. Quite the sherry bomb and 47.4%. Not too impressed on initial opening but it is now coming along nicely.

@BlueNote, consistency is important to me, good to know. I like what Mitchell and Co. does at their Campbelltown distillery. I'm a BIG fan of the Rundlets & Kilderkins releases.
