@mscottydunc @Nozinan – I totally see what you're saying, just giving some thought for the best way to handle this.

@jeanluc,

In the video, which bottle is the shop keeper handing to you?

I have a suggestion. When entering a discussion thread from the main page you are put at the first page of entries with potentially hundreds. You then have to scroll to the bottom of the page to be able to go to the last, most recent posts. Is there Possibility to start at the most recent page instead when entering the discussion or to add the option to choose page at the top instead of at the bottom?

@Alexsweden

How about - for discussions with more than one page of comments - we show the 3 most recent comments at the top of the first page with an option to 'Jump to last page'.

This would be followed by all comments in chronological order (which I think is still the best way to read a thread).

We could also highlight the most liked comment at the top of page 1 if that would be helpful?

Personally, I would be satisfied with just a "jump to last" button.

As discussed earlier we've published an update which improves to how discussions are linked to from the homepage and discussions index.

  • You can now click green Unread indicator dot and it will take you directly to the first unread comment in the discussion.
  • If the indicator dot is grey this link will simply take you to the last page
  • The username below Last post in the discussions list is now a clickable link, this will take you directly to the last comment in the discussion.
  • Also, there is now a Jump to last page button just below the discussion topic (if the thread is more than 1 page long).

I hope this helps, we're happy to hear more ideas for improvements on this if you have them.

@jeanluc 100% agreement with Nozinan's comment above. Really like the Jump to last button.

We're working on a few things behind the scenes including: a whisky news hub and a regular email digest promoting the best content on Connosr to all subscribed members.

@jeanluc Just a shout out for notification on the dashboard of new personal messages. Unless we specifically check and click on the buddy, we can't tell...

@Nozinan That's on my list of usability improvement relaxed  it involves tracking if messages are read/unread so it's fairly involved but it will be added.

2 Questions:

  1. How come this discussion is no longer pinned?

  2. Is there a way of making it possible to see who likes which comments or reviews?

Hi @Nozinan

  1. We felt that two pinned discussions was about the right amount (this is not irreversible though, I can add it back in if you're missing it relaxed )
  2. Yes, this has crossed my mind. Maybe when you hover over the like button? Or via a link?

It's not my site, and any suggestions should be taken in the context that we're just talking about tweaking, and satisfaction with the whole.

Given that we're still finding little things (like the "like" function recommendation, how to be alerted about private messages, online notification if someone follows you - oops, that's a new one akin to the message request), I think it would be helpful to have this discussion pinned until we run out of improvements to suggest... relaxed

And I like your suggestion for hovering.

Online notification if someone follows you

Tell me a bit more about this idea @Nozinan

@jeanluc On the old site if someone made a buddy request (kindof like facebook) it was indicated on my profile and I could accept or decline. Then if I accepted we were linked and could send messages.

On the new site it's more like twitter, where follows are unidirectional (though it does appear on the timeline - but I clicked "off" the follows so I don't see them). If I would like to send a private message to another member I can follow them but I have to hope they are paying close attention to the timeline otherwise they may miss it and no follow me back. If there was something on the profile which alerted us of a new follower and prompted "follow back?" it would facilitate communication.

We've added a whisky news channel to Connosr today (via the link in the main menu) and we plan to cover noteworthy stories from the world of whisky.

In the future we'd like to see this grow and include news contributors from the community. In the mean time drop us a line via the press contact link in the footer if you see a story you'd like us to cover.

@jeanluc , did the banner "Timeline" link to the recent site activity go someplace?

(It used to be there, right? I feel like I might be losing it a little.)

@jeanluc
jeanluc replied

@Ol_Jas The Timeline text link has been replaced by News (for balance in the menu) but you can click the timeline icon clock9 in the top/left and it goes to the same place.

I appreciate, however, that if you're used to clicking the text link it might throw you.

@Ol_Jas, I noticed the same thing. If you click the central orange circle you get the video intro screen from which if you click AGAIN, you can regain the timeline. I would like to see the Timeline option returned to all of the standard screen heading options.

@jeanluc @Ol_Jas The other option is if you are on the "home page" (get there by vlicking on the fancy circle on the top middle of the banner, there is a link to the timeline in the middle of the page.
