Planning on opening the Black Grouse this weekend to try. Was not impressed with the Famous Grouse so I'll see how this one goes. :)

Picked up another Clynelish 14 on the way home today, and just received a call that the bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 20 I have been pursuing was in hand and being delivered to me at work on Monday. Finally, a Monday to look forward to!

@T4sho3 good idea! corryvreken will be my first review. until then, upon first contact with laga 12,i think i prefer the corry to the laga 12. the corry has more going on it seems, though with a bigger bite. These two appear rather similar up front. will see how it pans out over time.

@alteredstate can't wait for the review Just purchased Elijah Craig 12 and making old fashions while watching Madmen tonight.....great way to enjoy a head cold

I have reserved for pick-up a bottle of the new Elijah Craig 12 yo Barrel Proof Small Batch Bourbon @ 67.1% ABV. Should be quite a hoot. And quite inexpensive 67% ABV whiskey in the US market @ MSRP of $ 39.99 plus tax. I can easily imagine Heaven Hill making this a regular release. I think that it would be quite popular. It hasn't been easy getting any of this in the current limited release.

I picked up two bottles of Irish Whiskey recently. First was a dusty older half bottle (375ml) of Michael Collins "A Blend", purely as a curiosity, and because the price was so cheap ($13US), it was minimal risk even if it's not very good!
I took my wife to a Midleton tasting this weekend, hosted by Eion Derham (Midleton Distillery Brand Ambassador). I would have walked out with a bottle of the latest annual release of Midleton Very Rare, or the even harder to find Barry Crockett Legacy, if I could have fit it in the budget. Both were marvelous. Since we already had a bottle of the Cask Strength Redbreat 12 in our home bar (also marvelous), we settled on the Powers Special Reserve 12 Year Old.
If you ever get a chance to go to one of Eion's tasting events, go! I've met him twice, and both times he's treated us to something rare and special we weren't expecting!
Since my last post I also added one Single Malt Scotch, Auchentoshan 12 Year Old, and one Scotch Blended Whisky, The Black Grouse, to the collection.

Well, I do have an 18 year Glennfidich. Or I could open that bottle of Jameson Irish Whisky. I am a scotch man through and through - I wish I could get friends and family on the same page as they present me with those birthday presents!!! ... so the 18 yr. Glennfidich will be my next choice. MMMMM

Plan to visit the Single Malt Whisky Society in Ediburgh next week and pick-up 2 of their latest releases:
• Clynelish 26.92 Hard glazed pretzel sticks Cask No. 26.92. At first nosing very ashy, like a distant erupted volcano, soon followed by various lemon aromas; lemon oil, lemon zest and lemon drizzle cake as well as a yeastiness of rye sour dough. The taste neat initially fiery like hot volcano ash but swiftly replaced by sweet wood smoke. There is also an interesting battle going on between the saltiness of pork scratchings and the sweetness of a crystallised orange. With water the nose turns fresher like a sea breeze and fruitier with apricots, pears and apples. This engaging sample from the distillery situated in Brora, tastes sweet like a bacon breakfast cake with maple syrup but at the same time salty like a Salzstange.
• Jura Cask No. 31.26. Our noses picked up the sea in droplets of spray, mixed seafood barbeques and beach clean-up bonfires. We also found mineral notes (slate, plaster, Plasticine) butterscotch, aniseed, salted crisps and cooked buttery pastry. The palate had quite serious smoke plus sweet, woody and earthy elements but most comments were exploring the savoury flavours of smoked ribs, bacon rolls with brown sauce, barbecued scallops and marmite on toast. On the reduced nose, somewhere between a rock-pool and a swimming pool, we were aware of prawn tempura with wedges of lemon and charred gammon with pineapple – nice feast! From Jura’s only distillery.

My latest additions are: Scapa 16, Compass Box Spice Tree and Ardbeg Uigeadail (at last!). All still unopened) I think my next one will be Clynelish 14, as I never tried anything from this distillery

I will be buying a replacement bottle of Balvenie Doublewood this week. Still a big fan of this one.

I just bought a bottle of Aberlour A'Bunadh (batch 37) which I plan to open tonight. I will be procuring a bottle of Johnnie Walker Green Label (very hard to find in Canada) from a duty free on my next trip to the States.

I'll be grabbing the Ardmore Traditional Cask if they still have it at duty free. @teebone673. Have you tried the Balvenie 12 year old Signature? Different from the DW, but also very nice. @johnkeating. Grab 2 if you find the JW Green. At around $50 for a litre at duty free you can't lose. Cheers.

@BlueNote I've never tried the Balvenie 12 Signature. Can't get it in my area. Would love to run into a bottle of it one day. Always been curious about it.

I acquired one of the Classic Malts of Scotland: Lagavulin 16 so I can further my journey into the microcosm that is the region of Islay with the macrocosm of bold flavor.

I will probably open either my Caol Ila Distiller's Edition (just tasted the 2000 Talisker Distiller's Edition and it's terrific), or Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or (I haven't tasted either yet). Looking forward to the Caol Ila, ambivalent about the Glenmorangie, though I've heard great things about this bottle.
The next bottle I purchase will likely be in Scotland! SMWS? Caol Ila 25? Laphroaig Cask Strength? Who can say?

Just replaced my first and emptied bottle of Glenmorangie Signet. @ $163.49 this also duplicates the most I have ever spent on a bottle. The flavour profile is distinctive enough that I like to have this continually around.

@rigmorole Just read your review on the Farclas 21 and brought back memories of when I tasted it. Would like to see a review on the 25yo by itself and your opinion on quality between the two
12 years ago 0
@Victor I couldn't agree more, I tried a dram of the Signet on my birthday last month and it was delicious. I feel I am the same way with the Balvenie 21yo Portwood. Great quality for the price.

@Victor Lets hope it reaches the Netherlands too, thats something I'd like a lot

After the Longrow CV I really want some Springbank. I saw the 10 yr old cask strength on the internet for only €43,- I just convinced myself completely:)

@maltster Nice.. be sure to provide some notes on the Rosebank 8 when you open it! The added OBE should make it much better than a standard 8 year old.

Just opened Aberlour Abunadh batch 39 wow there is a lot going on in this one. :)
